So, I actually struggle with selling anything mostly because I don't like money and greatly prefer bartering or just helping others out.
Because of this, I don't really know how to price anything I do try to sell.
Recently, I did need a bit of cash to pay for something, so I decided to put up listings for used stuff I have around my house that I don't actually use anymore.
One of these items was an elliptical I bought and used about 3 times before realising there's a walking trail near my home that's much nicer to use. This elliptical was just gathering dust in the spare bedroom, so I cleaned it up, tightened all the bolts, and made a listing for it on NextDoor.
I'm not really active on NextDoor and mostly just use it to see what's happening around my neighbourhood, but it seemed like a good site to use for trading and I can see there are a ton of buyers on there and not as many sellers for goods in general, at least in my area. I mean, people are always asking if anyone has this or that for sale in my area, so it seemed like a far better option than something like Craigslist.
How I Determined The Pricing
Like I said, I'm bad with figuring out how to value something, but I took the following into account when I did put a price on it:
The Offers I Received
Within 10 minutes, some jackass contacted me and just says"$50". He seriously offered me 1/3 of what I listed it for! I just ignored this and continued waitng.
Honestly, I just wanted to get rid of it, so I lowered the price down to $100 because I really only needed about that much for what I needed the cash for. 30 minutes later, a lady contacted me and asked for details about it, like if it's quiet and what the dimensions were. I gave the measurements and told her a bit about it. She came by a few days later with her husband, so my wife and I carried the elliptical outside to the front yard.
Selling The Elliptical
Her and her husband both tried it out and really liked it. She gave us the $100 and we talked with them for a bit outside. Thankfully, she was friendly, which was great because I've been having so many negative experiences with people lately whenever I go out.
It was just a much more pleasant experience selling this on NextDoor than I've had selling anything anywhere else.

How I Determined The Pricing
Like I said, I'm bad with figuring out how to value something, but I took the following into account when I did put a price on it:
- I bought the elliptical for about $120 several years ago.
- It's lightly used and still looks brand new.
- The same model is sold for about $300 now, so the value has gone up.
