The honeymoon phase of unlimited, high-speed AI might be coming to a close for us solo marketers and small agencies. We’ve seen two massive shifts this week that signal a change in the weather:

1. The Anthropic "Throttle"

Anthropic just confirmed they are officially tightening the belt. During peak "hustle hours" (5 am–11 am PT), users across all tiers—Free, Pro, and even Max—will see their session limits drain faster. Essentially, your "5-hour limit" isn't a flat rate anymore; it’s subject to surge pricing on your tOpenAI’s Counter-Move (and the Catch)

2. OpenAI’s Counter-Move (and the Catch)

OpenAI is smelling blood in the water. To win back users who jumped ship during their recent PR hurdles, they’ve moved toward "uncapping" usage. But let's be real: this is a temporary land grab. Word on the street is that keeping the gates open like this is likely why other resource-heavy projects (like Sora) have hit roadblocks. They are prioritizing retention over stability, but that can’t last forever when enterprise demand is skyrocketing.

The Bottom Line for Marketers

We are entering a "Priority Era." As massive enterprise contracts soak up GPU power, the individual consumer is getting squeezed. If AI is the engine of your content or SEO workflow, you need to prepare for two realities:

  • The "Night Owl" Discount: You might have to shift your heavy processing to off-peak hours to avoid throttled speeds.
  • Budget Creep: Subscription prices are likely the next thing to jump as "Pro" tiers get further segmented into "Priority" tiers.
I’m curious to hear from the group: Are you sticking with Claude despite the new peak-hour throttling, or does OpenAI’s uncapped (for now) model have you moving your workflows back to GPT?

How are you guys "future-proofing" your workflow against these rising costs?

AI was always a pyramid, unless we find a better solution for computing power and electricity. It will eventually end, unless the eagle keeps shifting digital $$
