Do you meal prep?

Bulk buy or cook? Or not?

If so why.

If not why.

For us it's something we do as our family home has 1 road in and out so in the winter if we get bad weather we can't get to a shop.

At our family farm house similar story but more isolated.

Im a bit fortunate as I get most of our food for nothing so I always bulk cook. No processed foods etc.

Just good quality eating.

You don't eat processed food but then you drink

Isn't that odd?

No.

My vodka is filtered.

If I sat there and drank carling, Heineken, coronovirus or some other shit swig you would have a point.

I more than get why there is processed food. Why it's there and the people it's targeted at. I get it. That's fine..

It's not for me. I can afford to not buy it. I'm also fortunate enough where I can control my own food supply (to a degree)

Na, used to do it, but now I don`t, I do cook though, so no shortcuts in quality.

When are you two inviting me for dinner???
Whenever.

Do you just cook on the night then?

We sometimes do that just some days I get given x veg or y meat and need to do something with it so I pre make a ton of dinners.

Plus if I die my wife and children can eat for a few weeks before they forced to buy a microwave

Well it's bbq season now.

So pork. Beef.

Long as you don't mind that. Fish and lamb rare. But slow cooked pork, beef short rib. Burgers etc

There is a wholesale vegetable market near where we live, where we occasionally buy bulk vegetable stock at very low prices and refrigerate it. We buy river fish once a week, marinate it, and store it in the deep freezer. We buy meat on the day we plan to cook it (we don’t store it). After that, it’s all about enjoying the cooking. We rarely eat outside food - maybe once or twice a month.

No offense, but once you experience the real taste of various recipes - especially those made with pork, mutton, chicken, and different types of river fish (which we have in abundance across the major rivers of Northeast India) - you’ll forget about processed food. Not to mention all the local vegetable-based dishes we prepare. Add in the love and joy of the cooking process, and it becomes something truly special. Honestly, it has nothing to do with alcohol. Here in Northeast India, people also make a variety of traditional rice beers at home, which are actually healthy.

Never had a rice beer, is it similar to Soju or Sake?

Didn't have any of these either, but I'm curious about the distinction between rice beer and rice whine.

Here in Northeast India, people make so many varieties of rice beer at home. My most favourite ones are Nogin Apong and above all - Po:ro Apong. They’re completely non-commercial, unlike Soju or Sake. People make them at home in small batches, usually for family use and to serve guests.

I have no idea what the difference is between rice beer and rice wine, though.

So when are you inviting me 🤣
You’re always welcome to visit our Northeast India! Just make sure to come with an open mind - you might be surprised by so many culinary and cultural shocks!

Aye guys not so much what you cooking tonight. But do you batch make meals and freeze them?

Saves money.
Save time.
Try to beat inflation.
Large family.

Whatever the reason.

Or do you just go out and buy stuff and cook on the night, or do you already buy raw ingredients in freeze and cook in the night.

Thats sort of what I mean rather than. Show me what you making tonight lol

Does any of you use tallow instead of processed oils to fry things?
