And again, I DO want them to win, but I don't see it happening with this attitude and when the Argentinians cut them open so easily. Tuchel really fucked this up, he should have pulled Kane and Rice out and put Saka, Rashford and another striker in and play openly. Yes, Argentina would have most likely scored, but at least you score 2 or 3 more back which - against this tired Argentinian team - is guaranteed win.

But yeah... I don't see England winning this anymore... sadly...

it was pretty obvious for anyone with a brain that you can't bunker down against a 4 time World Champion that have FIFA on their side, and if I could see it so should have a (presumably) world class manager been able to see it too. It's mind boggling how this pussy of a coach didn't see it.

England can not defend like prime Italy, it's not in their DNA. Just like technical skills are not in their DNA either. Sure, you have the occasional Becks, Owen, Saka, etc that can dribble sometimes, but - generally speaking - most of the English teams have never been good at taking opponents 1 on 1. I was watching Anderson (and not just him, but he's the one I remember off the top of my head) receiving the ball after England scored, and it was blatantly obvious that English players are not friends with the ball. Never have been, and never will be...

And the reason I say this is because whenever he received the ball after England scored, Anderson panicked in crippling fear whenever an Argentinian player even approached him. It felt like the Brit was paralyzed, he'd lose his balance, confidence, he'd panic and miss the ball, or pass it straight to Argentinians, he'd get dispossessed like you'd think he's never touched a football in his entire life, and so on... Put pressure on the British defense and midfield and they mentally collapse... not to mention that they're not friends with the ball like Spaniards are.

So, a manager with a resemblance of a brain or managerial acumen should see and understand this, and should play England to their strengths instead of trying to out tiki-taka Spaniards (be it Argentinians, Brazilians, Spanish, or whoever).

And what are England's strengths? Mentality (or at least I thought so), grit and determination, stamina, set pieces, etc... Those should have been England's weapons against Argentina, and even moreso after England scored and it was obvious that Argentina would put pressure on them, than before they scored.

At 0-0 England were all over Argentina, but the moment they scored (not even 5 minutes after they scored I believe) the imbecile Tuchel pulls one of his best players our to put Konsa (a defensive-oriented player) in. That's when I knew that England would lose, you simply can not - as a Brit - defend like prime Italy against a motivated and highly skilled Spaniard team, it's not in your DNA and period!

So, instead of inviting their pressure onto you, pull Kane and Rice out (because it was obvious they were extremely fatigued) and give your speedy, technical and rested players like Saka and Rashford chance to terrorize the (otherwise tired and not very skilled when compared to their attack) Argentinian midfield.

Like I said earlier in the thread - even if you've made these changes - I was 100% certain that Argentina would have scored at least once. But - since you are already leading - you have room to maneuver and put 2 or 3 more into the net. When you're playing a clearly superior technical side you need to keep putting pressure on them so they don't have many chances to break down because - given their skill - they WILL break you down with 20-30 minutes left in the game.

But, of course, in order to be able to do that you need to be a good manager and to have balls, things that after tonight's game I understood that Tuchel doesn't have either of. So yeah, your coach has lost you this semifinal IMO...

I know that you're not kidding, but that's not something that I wanna do for a living. Besides, I'm not consistently good at commentaries (at coaching even less so), I only get these things right once in a while, and then I go back to missing 100% of the predictions that I make :)

probably argentina because they've been too lucky, and too helped by FIFA (and because this was an anti-Europe WC from the get-go with all of the rules that were meant to turn football into the american abomination that they call football). But I will want Spain to win, and I'm not even a fan of Spain, I absolutely despise their passing-based football. But... you know... picking the lesser of 2 evils and stuff :)

Reason being, they've never lead in meaningful games at this WC, they've always come from trailing 1-0, so they've gotten used to this. So, as weirdly as it might sound, for their own good I hope that Argentina score first :)

I've seen this script many times before in football, where one team that has no experience at high level (England in this case) score first and then - when coupled with the opponent being battle-tested at the hardest level (current world champions as Argentina are) - they collapse mentally under the pressure of their own expectations and realization that they're leading the world champions. And since the mental is everything in this game... well, it was easy to see this outcome.

But had they conceded first - and given that Argentina had no reasons to push for a 2nd goal since they were tired as fuck - England at least had the experience of 3 consecutive comebacks from being down 1-0 at this WC, which would have helped them come back and potentially win.

At least that's what my gut feeling was telling me when I made that statement, and apparently it was correct. Never doubt your gut feeling :)

that's my feeling too. And Koeman did the exact same thing, he's deviated from the true Dutch style of football (quick 1-2 passes and attacking the goal) in the favor of defending. And this has cost the Dutch the game vs Morocco... And the same with the cowardly Tuchel, he subbed out Gordon (the actual goal scorer) to sub a defender in and invite pressure from an experienced and favored (by FIFA) Argentinian team.

I won't watch this videoclip cause I'm not in the mood to do so, but if what you've said is exactly what those guys said too then I couldn't agree more: it was all Tuchel's fault and nobody else's :)
