Can anyone recommend someone or a company that manages servers in the UK. Need it to be min shared 4 cores. 16GB dedicated ram and 200gb storage with daily back ups.

Needs to come with cpanel, although i didn't need access to that I just need to be secure and bulletproof. Host a massive SQL DB so speed the focus here.

Budget is under £5k a year. Don't mind paying more but if I can get it under 5k I'm saving money to where I am now. Our internal guy is moving on and id like options and getting an external company or just switching hosts totally.

I don't want shared bullshit we get 6-figure visits a month so need to it to be robust.

Have you looked at Bunny.net`s new managed database service: https://bunny.net/database/ seens cheap and managed, could even do replication for cheap.

Is it just a CDN? For DB and Images etc?
That service is a managed database, they gone way more in services than just a cdn nowadays.

Yeah the CDN prices are good. I might look at that if all else fails.

Ideally want to move it all into one location. At the moment between emails, servers, software and paying a human my yearly bill is just shy of 6k. Sometimes more with updates etc.

I want to cut back on some spending this year and there is definitely room to improve or LEAN that side of the business. It's triggered because the guy who helps manage our server is now leaving in September this year to do other things.

As much as I love having and doing it all in-house I really don't think I need a full OR part time server guy and definitely don't need another on retainer.

I would recommend Knownhost for managed VPS services. They have a Europe location, but don't have a UK location on their form.

Are you looking to manage your entire site + database from one machine?

Or are you just looking to move your database elsewhere?

If it's the latter, I'd recommend Supabase. Bunny Database is excellent, as well. I love Bunny as a company, but their Database option is relatively new.

I understand you want a more solid single-machine setup, but if your database is truly humongous, you should consider moving your database to a DBaaS (Database as a Service) and keep your site files on a relatively lower spec server (which can be managed).

This will ensure

A - Your server costs come down by a LOT - because you no longer have a database hammering your processing power or RAM.

B - Backups become easier. As your database is elsewhere, even if you lose your server to a hardware failure, you will lose no data.

We built a custom csf / mysql config / sql.cnf or whatever it is for our server which id want to copy for the next place so I personally think our server for how large it is is now is very fast for what I get and what I pay and the demand on it.

Id have to compare logs and data my side (if i ever find the time) but that bunny might be a future progression for sure. Thanks :)

Needs to be UK based for sure. All of our customers like 98% are UK. I don't want to be paying extra for speeding it up for users.

I'm not even sure if that's a thing anymore but that's the world I came from lol

Ideally yes. Everything in one.

I think the stuff @Dopious shared would be for the next installment of growth and when we come to doing a redesign and rebuild of the site.

At the moment. Moving it to another location (everything) to a new machine where I pay say £300-400 a month and I don't have to worry about us doing updates, we can manage all of our emails which would be a massive saving, don't need to worry about cpanel updates, worry about defending the server and so on.

That makes a lot of sense.

Unfortunately, the only managed service I have experience with has been Knownhost and they've been pretty incredible.

And all the other good names or those you find at top of those hosting review sites are owned by one big company with deteriorating service or have been known to oversell.

Hope you find something great.

Do you mean UK based as in just the server location or UK based company?

Also, is it a WP site? If it is, i'd recommend Closte. Use it when I ran WP as part of a service. It's not UK based as a company but offers London server location.

If you absolutely need something UK based from top to bottom, and isn't WordPress, Bytemark without a doubt.

The server sat in the UK.

No not Wordpress.

EDIT

I don't think Byemark is in the league I'm looking for. I can't see anything on pricing that comes close to the spec I'm after!

They have their own uk based datacentres ie they're not resellers so upgrading shouldn't be an issue but if in doubt or you want to explore better options then Cloudways is pretty much the gold standard I use for a comparison for anything managed and specifically for php based apps. Might be worth looking in to if you're not too concerned about switching from cpanel.

Byemark unless they offer custom options when you contact them they offer nothing online from what I use now currently.

Thanks for the Cloudways mention.

They have the same spec linode we have now and its 2x the price I guess that's the managed fee. So don't mind that. It kind of balances out. With everything, it comes in at £204 a month. So I'm almost 2k a year better off including the emails.

I might drop them an email and see if they can just take my Linode over as the migration should see zero downtime.

Thanks

I used Hostarmada in the past and found there support to be too notch

Not sure how they are these days so you might want to initiate a chat with the support

Try this. I use them. I run a VPS. I pay for the cpanel licence and add-ons seperate. I use a server admin that manages this for me. See if they have the specks you are looking for and multiple locations including England. So far almost negligible downtime. Decent support via ticket

They also have DMCA ignored locations which am currently using.

Yeah I got a server admin now I'm trying to move away from all of that - if it's possible.

I'm set up with Linode currently it's been working brilliantly for the last 14 years Id just like a company to manage it all now really.

Than us do it. It's becoming a time and cost issue. Issue as in I'm sure if I condense / compile services I can save money. Certainly on email at least.
