Hey @Zwielicht and @Impulse,

I see that the og:image tag is missing from the meta data, and because of that, the link preview looks incomplete when shared on social media and messaging applications (such as Viber, WhatsApp, etc.):

I have created two images that can be used as featured images based on the current logo and the forum’s main colors (purple and black). The dimensions are 1200 x 630, following standard requirements. You can find the images attached to this thread.

Once added, you can verify how they appear by using any debugger tool (I use Facebook’s debugger, found HERE - just click 'Scrape Again')

Cheers!

Thank you for creating that for us! I can't use the debugger unfortunately because I don't have a facebook, but we definitely should make our logo something that can be shared. On the other hand, we also need it to work for both themes on the forum.

I think it might be worth adding a black outline around the logo to make it viewable on all backgrounds but still allow it to have transparency. I'll have a look into some of our options for this.

The og:image tag shouldn't be theme/template related. It’s used by most engines (think of it as a "featured image") and is also validated by search engines like Google, among others.

Something neat is that Xenforo already has the meta tag for this by default, it just needed to be added in the Metadata logo URL field that was in the settings.

Anyway, I picked the one with the purple background, obviously. ;)

I tested it by sharing the link on Whatsapp, and it's showing up now.

Thank you for letting us know about this and for providing those logo alterations, @Vix! I'm glad that was an easy one to fix.

Edit: After looking at the preview on Whatsapp, I noticed that some social media sites display it in a more squarish box, and others in a rectangle. When it's in a box, the logo was getting cut off, so I made some adjustments to the image so that the logo shows fully with both formats.

We've got to make sure it looks good everywhere. ;)
