250 US dollars becomes 750, when the alternative would have been to cancel the lifetime subscription.

Plex announces in a blog post that the price of the Lifetime Plex Pass will be increased from $249.99 to $749.99 on July 1. That's a tripling of the price - and not the first time the company has raised it, as the license previously cost $119.99.

Plex writes that they considered completely phasing out the lifetime option, as ongoing subscriptions are better for long-term development, but that they chose to keep it at a price that better reflects the actual value of the software. As a counterbalance, the company lists a number of upcoming improvements, including automatic download of new episodes, NFO metadata support, and reinstated music and photo library support in the mobile apps.

Those who already have a Lifetime Plex Pass are not affected, and monthly and annual subscriptions remain unchanged. However, those who have been considering purchasing the lifetime license have until July 1st to lock in the old price.

So, if you need a lifetime plan, make sure to buy it before it gets much more expensive.

I know a guy who uses Plex as a movie server. Bet that dude is gonna be pissed when I tell about this if he doesn’t already know.

I got a Plex media server also. I'm sure the lifetime I paid in 2011/12 was under 100 bucks seemed a bargain at the time.

$250 to $750 is just so much at once. I wonder how this will affect their current subscriptions.

It will not affect current regular subs, only a change in lifetime subs.
Lifetime subs are so fucked up... How is that profitable even? Apparently isn't, since they increased the price. But maybe it's still beneficial to them to have at least some of these clients since they didn't nuke the lifetime, it's like me taking smaller clients too but trying to do service delivery really quick and basic? Idk.

That’s a crazy spike. Even double is crazy, but triple? Man.
