Prefixes are a really cool feature that I've enabled here on Office Outlaw.
If you look around this forum, you'll see that some threads have a little badge next to their title. For example, in the social media section, we have prefiixes for Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, and other social networking sites.
This allows you to categorise your own thread and even search for other threads on the topic simply by clicking the prefix. This way, we don't need to create entirely new subforums for every social networking site that gets made. Instead, we can just make a new prefix for the popular ones.
Additionally, when a social networking site begins to lose tractic and fade into obscurity (Myspace, anyone?), members can simply not discuss it, but the threads will still be viewable for historical purposes. In other words, we won't end up with dead subforums by using this prefix feature.
Like I said, cool, right?
