They are laying off 1,600 employees, as they have a 3% profit margin 150m on 5b every quarter.

It's a bit of a mess. The subscription model recently had a price increase which backfired HARD and then that resulted in people leaving the subscription befor they lowered the price back down again.

The day 1 launch access to games is GREAT as a gamer but I'm pretty sure that's part of the loss or lower margins when you can get it all on a subscription anyway I mean the sub costs £16.99 for Ultra in the UK right now. Thats £203.88 when games cost £80+ it's a big of a saving if your an Xbox Studio fan..

Also, that surge of buying studios for insane amounts of money, then shutting them down or binning games, doesn't help either.

Everything is very much reactive short-term decision-making, which is hurting them.

The business is certainly broken at the mo.

Buying studios give them IP, and if they go ahead with shutting down games since you are no longer owning it.

Makes them more money long term, with remakes or movies etc. If they go that route ?

But they are not really recovering the cost of that studio at the moment either. If they release a new game and then give half the xbox pass users free early access to that game revenues go down. That's my speculation of where and why they gotten to this point now.

Game pass has always been digital from the get go. While I miss discs and what not it's not like it's been a future shock that's coming turning services off is probably going to happen more frequently than it does now and that does suck.

The whole disc thing I think will see a surge in the second hand marketplaces and boom for older consoles and games where people don't want to be streaming, downloading or requiring a constant internet access to play a game.

Xbox already announced it's new console won't have a drive and now they will jump on the Sony bandwagon of producing no disc copies. They all follow each other see who can get away with it first then they all jump behind it. That's the gaming industry in a nutshell!

Netflix same. It's all catering to the brokies and everything's going down.
