Implemented Sapphire gifting feature?

Seeing as there's all sorts of way to keep a silly goose happy, what about membership giveaways?

We're all giving out free files, free accounts, free support, free hugs, why not make gifted memberships available?

Maybe a help message star saying "membership gifted by {}"

How much coding is behind building out XenForo? It's not as WP as I think, is it?

I did try make a forum before using XenForo, even before I found the other forum...

It depends on what we need to do. If there's an add-on for something more complicated, we just use that. If it's something simple, we modify the templates or add to the extra.less file. If something is more complicated than that, we can always build our own custom add-ons (I might even look into selling anything I develop on the Xenforo forums), although it's not come down to that yet.

It's not as easy as WordPress as I've found Xenforo add-ons are much more likely to conflict with each other than WordPress plugins do, but I wouldn't say it's terribly complicated. I've actually compared it to running a modded 1.7.10 Minecraft server in terms of difficulty; it's a lot of the same stuff you need to keep in mind, with the occasional code adjustments.

Yeah, it was something they mentioned before in the forum suggestions section. Basically, they have to be careful about what they add in because of conflicts with other add-ons, especially any custom ones they had. It's also why updates take longer as well as there's a lot to look over in terms of functionality.

I had limited access to the backend on that forum, so I never worked on anything technical for them.

You can actually see the members online without an account on their forums page.

Yeah, that whole page also needs to be re-worked. We were even thinking about redesigning it because it's kind of boring the way it is now.

You can only gift upgrades via the member's profile rather than on the account upgrades page as the latter created a loophole where you could gift anyone a membership even if they didn't qualify for it. Obviously, we don't need that kind of loophole here.

The add-on also added a bunch of "gift" options on every post on the forum. This has been removed.

Other than that, we've tested it and can confirm it works now. Have fun!

Would you like to be able to gift upgrades that are only purchasable with karma? Right now, that's just the Hot Rod badge, but I can make that an option. It also gives karma an additional use.
