Software For Editing Photos?

Not quite graphic design but didn't know where else to put this.

I do photo editing sometimes like editing photos for people. Whitening teeth and removing people in the background, that kind of thing.

I use Photoshop because that's what I'm used to but I'm starting to think it's going the way of the milkman. It's just kind of way too expensive.

Anyone know of any good alternatives specifically for editing photos?

I still use my old copy of Adobe Photoshop CS6, but I believe I used Canva before and it seemed like a good alternative.

If you want to stick with Adobe then I heard Lightroom is cheaper at least according to my brother who uses it for his work.
