With countless platforms out there, it can be tough to know which ones truly stand out. In this list, I am breaking down the Top 10 social media platforms you need to know. This guide is especially helpful if you’re unsure which social media platform is best for your niche. While it’s generally recommended to maintain a presence on all major platforms to maximize exposure, it’s also smart to focus more on the ones that align best with your goals and audience.

#1 Facebook

Users: 3,070 million
Niches: Good for everything mainstream. Has has the biggest audience, so there is most likely an audience for every niche. Not good for blackhat niches.

Facebook is still one of the most effective platforms for businesses looking to build a strong online presence. With detailed ad targeting, business pages, and tools like Facebook Shops and Events, it’s ideal for reaching and engaging your audience.

#2 Youtube

Users: 2,530 million
Niches: Also, very good for everything. It can also be used with greyhat or blackhat niches, but the accounts will at some point get banned, so a good rotation for accounts is a must if you want to go the blackhat route.

With over 2 billion logged-in users monthly, it’s a powerful way to reach potential customers through how-to videos, product demos, testimonials, and more. Plus, it has SEO-friendly content and monetization options. Don't be fooled when people say that it is just for creators because it's not. It can also be utilized for businesses. Especially If you have an interesting business that can produce interesting videos, you may wanna hop onto Youtube as well.

#3 Instagram

Users: 2,000 million
Niches: Good for mainstream niches and products that appeal to younger ages (14 y/o to 35+ y/o).

In terms of usage, Instagram most likely would be the #1 on this list, but in terms of just users it is "only" number #3. It's especially powerful for brands in lifestyle, fashion, beauty, food, and other visually-driven industries. If you are good at making attention grabbing videos then Instagram is the perfect platform for you.

#4 TikTok

Users: 1,690 million
Niches: Good for mainstream and lifestyle niches, as well as everything that the younger generation likes.

Not surprisingly, TikTok is also on this list. It has quickly become a powerhouse for brands looking to reach new audiences through short, engaging video content. The key to making a good video for TikTok is too make really short and attention grabbing videos. We are talking about 10 - 30 seconds videos that most likely do the best. TikTok is ideal for people that aren’t afraid to get creative and show some personality. Perhaps I can make a guide in the future how to tackle TikTok as it really is its own beast.

#5 X/Twitter

Users: 600 million
Niches: It is okay for mainstream but good for more forbidden topics such as Adult, Pharma, etc.

If you are in a more "forbidden" niche or market, then X/Twitter might just be the best opportunity for you. With the "free-speech" rules that they have going on there, it is easy to talk freely about more forbidden subjects such as adult as well. And their algorithm is a lot more forgiving than Instagrams or TikToks algorithm. It also has a image and video sharing option, but it is also fast-paced. It’s perfect for sharing instant updates, news, and promotional content in bite-sized posts. Definitely something to keep in mind when thinking about what social media platforms you would want to focus on.

#6 Pinterest

Users: 500 million
Niches: Very good for everything that interests the female market. 90% of Pinterest users are women, so it's the perfect opportunity to market directly to females from there.

Pinterest is ideal for businesses in industries like fashion, home decor, food, beauty, and DIY. Especially if you are good at designing your own infographics, then you should not miss out on Pinterest. They have very good SEO and this can be utilized, especially for Google Images. It also offers unique opportunities to reach users who are actively searching for ideas, making it a must-have tool for visual storytelling and e-commerce.

#7 Reddit

Users: 430 million
Niches: Tough market. Reddit users usually hate everything that is related to advertising, so you need to have either a very good product that people naturally want to use, or you just need a very good marketing ad. Reddit allows adult content, so it's another good opportunity for adult content.

While it's not a traditional advertising platform, Reddit's active and engaged user base allows brands to build credibility and trust by providing valuable insights. As already stated, Reddit users are known to be very "anti-advertising", so you will most likely face lots of backlash if you do not know what you are doing. It's good for adult content, but you need to have a good idea on how to market yourself or your business if you want to succeed with Reddit. It's most likely one of the toughest social media platforms to gain social proof in.

#8 LinkedIn

Users: 420 million
Niches: Good for business-related marketing. It is, after all, a professional networking platform.

LinkedIn has a focus on professional development as well as businesses showcasing the expertise and share industry insight. If you are in such a niche, it is great to expand on LinkedIn. Whether through regular posts, long-form articles, or LinkedIn Ads, you can leverage the platform’s tools to attract high-quality leads and market yourself efficiently.

#9 Quora

Users: 300 million
Niches: Good for mainstream niches. It also covers more forbidden topics every once in a while, so It may also be good for greyhat and blackhat niches.

Quora is a question-and-answer platform. You can use the platform to establish credibility by providing valuable insights and solutions. Quora is the largest question-and-answer platform, and with that, they also have a high authority when it comes to search engine ranking. If you can get around their post filters, you can answer questions and indirectly market your brand or product on there as well. It's not an easy task as accounts sometimes also can get removed or posts can get hidden, but it is worth having a look at it.

#10 Tumblr

Users: 135 million
Niches: Good for niche products. In some ways still works with adult content but you have to be creative.

-----

I agree that Tumblr was better before. A few years ago Tumblr was literally just mostly aesthetics and adult content. Since Tumblr has banned adult content, a lot of the people have switched away from the platform and went to other ones. Their userbase is now nowhere near as large as it was, but they still manage to get over a 100 million users every month. Now the content on there became a lot more mainstream, but you can still find some adult content on there if you know your way around it. It is suitable for mainstream marketing, mainly if you wanna target the US. While it's not as mainstream as other platforms, you can tap into the right audience and build a loyal following and stand out with content that feels more personal and less commercial. It's worth a try, in my opinion.

If you have any other social media sites that are worth a look, feel free to post them below. Also, note that I only included real social media platforms. I do not count WhatsApp or Telegram as social media. To me, they are more like chat apps, and not social media networks. (yes, this was all written by me)

Thanks for the correction. I was actually taking these numbers from a bunch of different sources, so I accidentally input the wrong number. It's now correct.

Also I do think you missed the mark with Reddit and LinkedIn
I was checking statista, but they are only going by visits, not by users. I am sure that Reddit has a lot more users than what I have described here, but the overall majority of sources I have used were around the same number that I have used above.

Yep, that's definitely something to keep looking out for.

Is users based on 'register' users? or daily? YouTube and reddit both seem low?
Yes, registered users. According to Globalmediainsight, Youtube currently has roughly around 2.70 billion monthly active users. So its a little more than what I written done, but guess its close enough, lol.

Yes, I love the ones that aren't oversaturated and very lucrative.

Sometimes it's best to be an user from a newly launched platform and build from there!

Thanks for the share!
