'Millions of sole traders and landlords have just months to prepare for massive changes to the tax system that take effect next year.

From 6 April 2026, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD ITSA) will apply to sole traders and landlords whose combined gross income from self-employment and/or property exceeds £50,000 a year. If this applies to you, you’ll need to keep digital records and use HMRC-compatible software to submit four quarterly updates and then a ‘final declaration’ to HMRC each year. This will replace the current self-assessment tax return.'

If you’re a sole trader and/or landlord with a qualifying income of more than £50,000 for the 2024/25 tax year, you’ll need to comply with MTD from 6 April 2026. The threshold falls to £30,000 from April 2027, and then to £20,000 in April 2028.

Anyone from the UK have any thoughts on this?

Heckling people that arne't even making much more than £30k per year is fucking ridiculous.

The claim is that it's to help balance a massive tax gap with Gordon Brown yesterday emphasising that Britain is the poorest it's been in 60 years.
This is the same fucker that sold half the country's gold at record low prices, and the rates have sky rocketed right now. Well done Gordon.

Of course two things that never seem to change despite everyone apparently being ridden in poverty :
- the unemployed, who've got no real reason to be unemployed (eg arne't in a coma or dying of illness etc) getting their share of 'benefits', these are the same kind of people that seem to hoard and misuse nhs and other public services too. I've seen people even in there 50s and 60s that have barely worked a day in their life but complain about how bad the govenrment, the same government feeding, housing and clothing their juvenille asses, are
- If you got here on a rubber boat and don't even have a damn work visa, let alone a passport, you get to stay in five star hotels 'on the house' until they move you in to a new builds that are nigh impossible for most youngsters to even afford at all, or take decades to pa off. Of course it's NOT 'on the house' though is it? It's actually at the taxpayers that they continue to ring like fucking towels.

Might be time to seriously start considering moving abroad. I can see for most millionaires that boat has already set sailed. Might even be time for the average joe with any work ethic and sense of self-respect to follow suit too.

If you use Xero, Sage or whatever it's not that big of a deal.

It just to stop people entering 60k income, 50k outgoings profit 10k, play class 4 and no tax to pay that's all.

Or you can just get an accountant.

Agree they fuck around with the little guy way too much its the 20-100k sole traders who keep the UK going if you ask me.

While it is annoying as heck this was always coming I think it's just a bit outdated.

Personally our whole tax system needs a rework.

Anyhow.

Moving abroad if you can do it, go for it. Id avoid Europe I think the entire place is going to be a Muslim country give it 20ish years and when they are in power things will change around this way.

I can't leave we should have gone years ago. Family now.

Unpopular opinion.

We need someone in power that will stop aid payments charity starts at home. Lets get stuff sorted here first then give money away after.

Stop paying 5m+ a day for housing

Get rid of benefits and go back to food stamps / power coupon / rent coupons etc

From what I heard from friends plus planning the same since the current weird government rules case around 50,000 millionaires have left so far with most others planning to do the same.

Some have registered business in foreign countrys to special location to get around it.

It will probably fully destory many businesses plus make uk turn very poor fast.

For me just waiting to get a inplant once that done will jump ship and join my friends abroad with my others.

On the NHS?

So rather than stay and pay back to cover your op you just just ship. I get the NHS is broken anyway. No better than the fuckers that come here.

Pay private and leave or go do it aboard and pay.

Yeah. So ironic though that so many people are moving to islamic countries - namely UAE to get away from islamic immigration to their home countries.

Yeah id not move there. Problem is where do you go?

We almost moved to Canada, wife job was in demand. I passed checked money wise we started to learn French because of where we wanted to move to and was all in place to go. She became pregnant and she wanted to stay close to her family. So here we still are.

Canada probably similar or worse boat than us anyway at the mo.

Unless you buy your own bit of land with water around (island) I'm not sure what you can do to "escape" really.

I'm avoiding thinking about Canada, Aus, NZ they're all just under the same consitutional monarchy i'd be trying to get away from.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but i've heard good things about Switzerland. Apparently they don't put up with any bs there - if you can't pull your own weight, you're out. Just a massive language barrier might be the biggest problem of all if you do settle somewhere

Other than that, not even sure what would be 'worth' moving to. Hmmm

It might just be an old seaport that's declared itself an independant nation for some reason, but at least it sounds impressive when you tell someone you live 'offshore'.

Yeah, I find it hilarious that I have to deal with islamic countries like Maldives and Malaysia on visa runs 😂. Thankfully I stay in buddhist country most the time. Somehow I feel that I actually have less muslim drama than people living in UK, Germany, etc.

Poland same, can't fuckin stand these freeloaders, moving the fuck out of there was best decision of my life. Couldn't have such a nice lifestyle if I didn't move. I love Sri Lanka, if not that then I'd go with another island.

Move to Sark, Sark does not have Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax or Sales Tax.

Sounds pretty fucking good that. I am surprised i've never heard of it before.

It's theravada buddhism in sri lanka right?

Somewhere like French Polynesia sounds ideal for islands, at least for climates... Imagine being able to work from home in a place like that. Not sure how practical it would be in the long run though.

Yeah we liked Canada at the time because of what we could have, fitted our life style, wife and I both hockey fans so would have been perfect life changes tho.

Problem is these days I don't know where you can go or what you can do. All I think you can do is buy property and land, grow your own food, fuel your own heating and run your own electric and try and just rely on the gov as little as you can.

Having money in a good tracking fund to generate wealth probably the best you can do but eventually they come for that.

I just hope I got enough money and assets to sustain myself against whatever maybe.

Things are changing fast and it's not for the better no matter what people say.

You could always try to move to Sealand

There was a documentary on this I think.

It took a lot of doing for them to become independent and an actual nation.

No women for you . You got no time Let's focus on your mission two ferrets if you try and move their email guy in charge get put into law all people need two ferrets to live in that area.
