Reddit Was The "Trending Today" Bar Always Like This?

I was on Reddit this morning when I noticed they had a very prominent promotion in the "Trending Today" bar.

Here it is:

A part of me feels like this was done deliberately so the ad could be centred. It doesn't help that the ad is nearly twice as wide as anything else on that bar.

Was it always like this?

& it's only going just flame & escalate the war further

Maybe it was just a glitch but idk the company that owns reddit has been getting crazy greedy lately.
