New What Do You Want For The Office Outlaw Logo?

Ever since we changed the logo, several of you have mentioned preferring the old logo to the new logo. On the other hand, some of you like the new logo.

Right now, it seems very divisive, and we're still at an early enough stage that changing the logo wouldn't be a big deal.

The Logos We've Had So Far​

These are the various complaints we've heard about the new logo.

• It's too niche.
• It's not representative of the community.
• The "green blood".
• The shape of the icon isn't necessarily clear, especially on small screens.

The Old Logo

It was only around when we had far fewer members, but here are some issues we saw with it.

• We felt it was fairly obvious it was AI-generated. Some people might take issue with this, like it was lazy. We felt it gives the wrong impression.
• Even though we can make this, we don't have any vectors for it, which will be more problematic should need to resize it. Ultimately, we'd need to recreate it in Illustrator.
• It's off-centre/slanted.
• It was designed with any real thought in terms of what the community is about. The prompt was even fairly generic.

Our Options​

Simplifying The Current Logo

It seems like the main issues with the current logo are around the icon. One option we could go through with is just removing the graphic from the logo.

The image below is a very rough simplification of it, but it should give you an idea of what it looks like.

Creating An Entirely New Logo
With suggestions from all of you, we could try creating various mock-ups of logos and doing a poll on which one best fits the community.

Keep it in mind we're trying to attract people in similar adjacent niches and stay within the colour scheme of the website. White and black, like the old logo, is fine though.

Work With The Old Logo
We'd rather not just use the old logo again, but enough of you voted for this, we could switch back to it. At the very least though, we'd look into re-creating it in Illustrator and make some very small design adjustments to it. Look at the gap between the "L" and the "A" for example; we'd fill that in.

Keep The Current Logo
We could just keep the current logo as this is also an option, which is why it's been added to the poll.

That's the thing, even we're undecided. When we got the new logo and put it up, we had to get used to it. We liked the design, but we did miss the old logo.

Even now, we're still not entirely used to the new logo. Sometimes, we even miss the old logo, especially because we've worked on this forum for over 5 months, and that was the logo we got used to seeing.

I think it's a good thing for all of us chip in when it comes to a logo because it's the first thing a lot of people will notice about the forum. After all, it's in preview links on social media sites and it's at the top of the forum when people visit here.

I thought about doing this, but felt bad because I don't really have much I could offer the winner for their design. I know some people would be happy to just submit one, but I also want to be able to compensate them for their art.

I fixed up the simplified logo to be what it would actually look like instead of that rough draft I put up earlier. I updated the main thread to have this image as the example as well.

I'm staying out of this poll myself, but the results so far are interesting!

I will admit, I'm glad to see that nobody so far feels we should create an entirely new logo right now. Most are split between the current and old logo.

Hopefully, we get more votes on this to get a better idea of what more members want.

I've voted for the old logo.

My opinion is that this current skull logo is too niche, as mentioned earlier. This is an IM forum, people might have second thoughts when they arrive.

This thread is the first time I've seen the old logo. As someone with no attachment to it, I don't really like it. I was torn between the current logo and the simplified version. I voted for the simplified version, but I might change my vote to current before the poll ends.
