What kind of scam is this!!

Some random person from the UK messaged me last night offering a task and said they'd pay once I completed it. The task was super simple, just search for 3 hotels on TripAdvisor and send screenshots.

I did it. told her, and then she gave me another contact to reach out to for payment. I messaged that person and they actually sent me $15 in USDC

This is the second time something like this has happened to me. Can anyone decode this .

I don't know the details, but they are clearly gathering as much information on you as possible. They know your wallet address and know it's active. They know your age, which is a huge red flag right there in which just giving an age number is any kind of verification. They know whatever else you captured in those screenshots. They know anything you have in your Telegram profile. They know more than you think they know.

Disengage. Change passwords and set up 2FA where possible.

Yeah, it was just one of my dummy Telegram accounts, not my real one.
Still no idea what their actual goal is though.

The first time someone like this messaged me, they asked me to invest $100 to “earn more”
Now I’m just waiting to see what this new one says next lol

I'm 1000% sure it's scam. But it's the second time I'm encountering this. I'm just curious about their work funnel . How do they even earn

I can't pretend to know much about crypto scams or ID theft scams or anything, but I assume they hack wallets and exchange accounts. Hell, even bank accounts if they get enough information.

Loans in your name. Credit cards. Anything is possible.

Clicking a link out of curiosity almost got me cleaned out one time. I knew better, but a lapse in judgment was almost disastrous. Be careful.

I was surprised when you said they sent the money, but my first thought was that it sounded like one of those old RuneScape money doubling scams where someone would “double” your money the first few times to make you feel comfortable, and then as soon as you sent them a large amount of money to “double”, they’d log out with your coins.

Maybe it’s not an exact comparison, but I figured they’d probably ask you to do something more complicated or risky, possibly something that costs more money than what they sent you. and then refuse to pay you since they made the money back plus something extra. What you said in your last post makes this sound even more likely.

Interesting. It's like exchanging reviews where you basically don't need accounts, proxies, etc because people that you exchange with have their own accounts and internet connections. Except you pay and sell that. Actually makes sense??

So this is a common scam. Lot of the people here get scammed.

So this is how they operate.

1st they send you tasks and pay you 5-15 USD. Build trust.

Next they ask you to deposit money and tell you it's mandatory for the bigger tasks with higher payouts.

Usually they scam people between 100-1000 USD.

Exactly.

This is a twist on a advance fee scam.

It's been done to target a specific generation.


You also want to be careful sending screenshot if you have location on in mobile as it may contain location information in the exif file etc.

Maybe they are doing Trip Advisor rankings. Number one spot in a certain location gives them more bookings. Real people = real reviews/likes
