Pre-COVID
I was honestly thinking of settling down with a B&M Business.
A little cafe somewhere in town.
As long as it made some profits it would have been great and fine.

However, post-COVID, those plans didn't really align anymore.
Family circumstances changed and kinda scrapped it.
Since then, haven't really thought of opening a b&m business. Probably maybe honestly won't.

What about you guys?
Any offline businesses you would want to start?

Yes, but not in particular a Brick and Mortar business. AI continues to develop and will do a lot of the hard work on the internet, such as programming, content writing etc. - While it still is not perfect and most likely won't be for a long time it does not mean that it already replaced people.

So if I would open a offline business, I would look for things that actually cannot be replaced easily with AI:

- Skilled Craftsmanship (Handmade things)
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- Mechanics
- Carpentry Work
- Flower Shops
- Therapists & Psychologists
- Social Workers
- much more

While AI certainly can assist those jobs, it won't replace them for the time being as some jobs require a human touch in order to function.

you convinced me
time to open a pleasure house

I'm not so sure I would personally do this. Some days it feels like another pandemic or something world changing is just right around the corner. It just feels sooo... risky....

There's a vape and CBD shop across from the retail outlet village I worked at, imagine having the perfect sales counter for an office chair and a laptop with a coffee machine in your little kitchen so you can get your OfficeOutlaw activities going while your business is getting foot traffic...

I'd love a little repair shop or something cool, but I couldn't fix two Lego bricks together

Like @Champagne said about AI businesses is good. I would also consider splitting it into two categories, essential services and nice-to-have services.

A contractor to help you with a leak in your house is essential, a contractor to help you polish your garage floor is nice to have. Only one of them is going to have an edge when it comes to survivability. Don't have your business rely on nice to haves only, you can offer them but keep core services essential :)

Also start something that is fun to do and that you can enjoy even when times are tough, like @Dopious example.

Best of both worlds is an essential business that is somewhat unique and fun to run :)

A nice independent fast food place has crossed my mind since the local ones here are rubbish.

Some of them are so bad I'm like how is this guy still in business.

WIll have to improve my cooking skills but still.

You might want to start the Raw Food Chain (RFC) - might as well put KFC out of business. It's strange to hear you talking about fast food. Maybe that's why you don't like the best fast food in town.

My food is fast.

Might not be cooked but it's extremely fast.

Perfect for busy entrepreneurs.

;)

Calling all Wikipedia editors to note this and maybe add raw food to the Wikipedia page for fast food.

A nice little co-working space somewhere in Asia would be nice to open.
That would be great for upcoming economies. There are a ton in NL and nobody really uses them.

Those internet Cafe's thet stay open 24/7 like in Korea or Japan look really interesting to me. Just not currently in my country.

Super weird enough
those are basically more or less dead in Australia
I guess since computers are so much more accessible now? kinda

Yeah those were defunct at the same time they got rid of payphones.

Of course yes, if you are making enough money online, having an offline business still goes a long way.

Having a brand with physical presence helps a lot.

Pre Covid I was at the point of building a HQ, nice Victorian red brick warehouse inspired by something like this:

So at least going to work every day the experience would be nice and Id be happy going there over a metal warehouse. Just something different and cool.

COVID taught me that was a waste of time. So we do everything remote based now.

We do have a offline veg box and log delivery business that runs off the farm.

I've also considered just opening up a butcher's or a artisan bakery or something in my local town as theres nothing like that around here, just something different
