Guys, did you hear the news? Google is FINALLY testing annotations in Search Console! Could this be the feature we've all been waiting for?

I just came across this article on Search Engine Roundtable that says Google is rolling out a test that allows some users to add their own annotations to performance reports1. You know how we've always complained about those mysterious traffic drops with no explanation?

Want to know the best part? - This feature lets you mark these events directly on your charts and add notes explaining what happened. Like when you launched that new campaign or when your site went down for maintenance1. This has been on SEOs' wishlist for ages!

Here's the thing... It's not available to everyone yet. According to the article, only some accounts are seeing this option, and it appears as a blue highlight with "Add annotation" text at the top of the performance reports1. Fred Bobet was one of the first to spot it and shared screenshots on X.

You might be wondering how this is different from those browser extensions we've been using as workarounds. Well, this is official - built right into GSC by Google's team, not some third-party solution that might break with the next update1. That's a huge advantage for reliability!

Think about it this way... Remember all those times you've tried explaining to clients why their traffic suddenly spiked or dropped? Now you'll have a built-in system to document these events where both you and your clients can see them! No more scrambling through your calendar trying to remember when you made that site change.

Even the bit about impossible and hard tasks... that won't even be a thing.

We (my company) have already slashed our copywriting team and reduced spend on SEO tools as a result of AI. Only part that's still standing at full staff is the dev team and that's because I can't trust the AI to do the code or trouble solve actual real problems with servers etc.

The biggest problem with AI that no one is talking about is what's going to happen to jobs. No one sees it as a threat at the moment and the world will only wake up once it's too late. Everyone expects a "robot" or "self driving X"

AI is going to more damage to employment quicker than any of the above scenarios.
