Don't mean to be a grump.

Is there anything in place at the moment about derailing a thread or shit posting replies.

I'm all for fun and games and having a laugh and I'll be first to admit I can be guilty of it.

But I think in order for the forum to grow it needs to be stamped out now.

The prime example is all the ferret posts with replies to almost every thread with something about them.

Like if I start doing the same about vodka or we all post with our own quirks I don't get how anyyhing gets answered.

Not just that but forum growth is going to be limited no?

Ignoring a user doesn't resolve the issue either.

Any stranger coming here for advice and sees shit posts could and will get put off. I don't get how it helps this place thrive and grow.

It's only young but as this place hopefully grows it could become a major issue.

Just my 2p.

13 votes on this, can we implement this ?

If we added something in, I would prefer to do as @UnusualSubstance says and allow it thread derailing in The Saloons, but prohibit it in every other section.

We can add a clarification in under the spam rules (rule 1.4) that we already have. Notices/warnings can be if it's done excessively or if we tell a member to knock it off, but they ignore us and continue. We have an easy way of keeping track of how often we tell a member something without using the notice system, so this can work.

Let's say 8 upvotes for this and we can add it in.
Other saloons are not just for banter but also for things that cannot be said anywhere else since they do not have a dedicated section.

@Zwielicht can we approve this and move on it's above your magic 8 number threshold lol

I really do need to standardise thresholds as I will admit they are kind of random at the moment. :D

Yeah, we can consider this one approved.

I've added a couple of new rules in as a result of this discussion: rules 2.8 and 2.9.

2.8 is a common sense one just telling members to do their best to post in the right section. It only exists to mention that we simply move threads when they're posted in the wrong section.

Rule 2.9 is directly about this, telling members to stay on topic in serious discussions outside of The Saloons. The procedure we have for handling this is to simply have a moderator come in and tell everyone to keep it on topic. However, if a member begins resorting to what is essentially trolling with jocular posts in serious discussions, a notice (warning) will be issued a last resort.

  • 2.8 Posting in the correct section
Please do your best to post in the correct section. It's fine if you don't know what the correct section is, so long as you make an effort to post in the most appropriate section. If you post in the incorrect section, our moderators will simply move the thread to the correct section.
  • 2.9 Thread Derailing
This only applies to threads posted outside of any of The Saloons. Essentially, please do your best to stay on topic with the opening post and refrain from posting jocular responses in serious discussions. Our moderators will make an effort to keep discussions on topic should this happen, although if we note that a member excessively continues ignoring this, a notice for inappropriate content may be issued as a last resort.
