I will soon-ish be 40, I am not from a privileged background and I never had a 9 to 5 in my life. And I am completely scared shitless that there might be a time in the future where I will have to look for a job.

Sends shivers down my asshole man.
You might just need to reframe how you look at your strengths and be open to new opportunities that can align with where you are now.

The main problem is that the concept of waking up to go somewhere every morning is so foreign to me that it would be extremely painful to adjust.

However, looking for any job is far from necessary at this point and I hope it stays that way for the foreseeable future.

Being able to work on my own time and control my own waking hours after I started working for myself was so freeing. I don’t think I could ever go back to having my sleeping hours controlled by some loser manager who does less work than I do.

Ahh finally, I clock it… Are you @Dopious son?

lol, I don't want to marry just for sex, just want to have a better future. I work a lot the whole day even tho i have no need for this much but I do. I want to give every facility to my parents first and ofc @Dopious is none of them, but he is very OG here and I like his humour.

I do, do 9-5
but i also chase my own thing
Don't you have regular burnouts? I am in the middle of deciding to quit my 9-5 to fully dedicate myself on what I have been quietly building on the side.

Handling both at the level where you feel satisfied with the amount of work you put in every day, is just draining.

If you're in doubt, read someone's post history.

In my opinion she is going through one right now.

I burnt out when I was 2 years old. Now I'm 27 and I'll never work in my life again. I worked as a teenager and now I live life.

So I am already retired without any money, but I have skills 99.9999999% of people around me can't use. Some ask me if I have magical powers. I think in some sense I do.

Think, would you care about money if you had everything for free for the rest of your life. Would you care about money if you could be beautiful and free forever. Priceless things.

I do have burnouts, not regular tho
my burnouts is more usually always tied to
shitty management, or just pure shit supervisor

I do also have days when I just dont feel like doing my job either.
Which, going to be clear, I just don't.
I have positioned myself or rather organized myself in a position where, i never miss deadlines because some days I just don't want to work.
I'm usually always ahead.
But that's only stuff assigned, ADHOC or fire drills ain't included and if for some unfortunate reason, those do drop on my lap while its a day I feel like shit
I just end up feeling even more shit while i work away.

Either way, luckily, those feelings typically are tied to bad management in general more so than the work involved itself.
I do push back alot on work, espically when its "useless", "waste of time" or just "dumb" in general.
In my current company, feedbacks are very well received, and at least in my dept, they do encourage it.
So things I tend to work on, are things I enjoy doing, dont mind doing or things that does actually benefit the company

Jesus, pure horror and terror.

And now imagine none of this stuff people get burnt out for doesn't matter at all. It's literally void!

I have never worked for money, I've always worked for my family's convenience. It's a shitty world that we live in. But as one man I can't change the way the world works and I have accepted that many many years ago. I have to play by their rules, otherwise my loves ones will suffer.

I like the saying I heard somewhere I can't remember that goes "presence of money maybe won't make you happy, but its absence will surely make you unhappy".

I wouldn't say it's the same as working for your selfish reasons which I practiced all my life. I spent my money like some gambler without any awereness of how financial world works.

That's what happens when parents are extremely passive, neglectful and you switch roles with them. Such people can blame each other for decades, even their kids. It just drives you nuts and I even have a psychiatric certificate for this! My parents have too. :ROFLMAO:

Well, I heard couple stories like that and they just say to optimize costs of living, live like you're a lot older than you actually are, block parents on facebook and make money for different reasons than food, shelter. Which means, don't make money for the sake of it, but make money out of your art and something bringing joy to your life.

Hah, I tend to say that "Having money is one less reason to be depressed."
