Security updates will now continue until October 2027.

Microsoft has extended the Windows 10 ESU program, which provides users of the discontinued operating system with continued security updates, by one year, ending in October 2027 instead of 2026.

The extension was not announced in any press releases but via small changes to the ESU program page on Microsoft's website and a small update in a blog post explaining:

– This extension gives customers additional time to migrate to a new Windows 11 PC while continuing to receive critical security updates.

In the latest figures from Statcounter, Windows 10 has fallen below 30 percent of the Windows market share, but that's still hundreds of millions of computers. Since Microsoft already promises three years of security updates to paying enterprise customers, it wouldn't be surprising if the company makes the same updates available to consumers, thus extending the program for another year.

I've got mixed feelings about this; I was ready to upgrade to a new gaming laptop due to the updates ending and was looking forward to it.

Now that they've extended it for another year, ideally it'll mean the memory prices will drop before I upgrade next year.

My thoughts aswell.

they're panicking that they're losing market share to Linux :D

Which is also why they've probably launched their own Linux distro too... Of course, a corporatized distro as you can expect from Microslop, but newbies don't know any better so they'll probably bite the bullet (ie. stick to Microslop like they've successfully been cucked into doing)

The fact that Linux becomes mainstream for desktop use is bad...
Most people that use simple distros don't even understand the system architecture, permissions, isolation, daemons etc.
Malware becomes more common and then we will have to move to something else..

Another person that thinks like me lol. Noobs aren't welcome. Android is malware ladden enough already, imagine this on a desktop...

the alternatives are worse, can't you see how much the corporations are fucking us? Sooner or later the concept of company (which shouldn't exist to begin with, in a civilized - people-oriented - society) will stop existing, so the sooner or embrace, and work towards achieving this goal the better for everyone.

that would be me! I've never been tech-savvy and I admit, I do struggle understanding Linux, and if something bad happens to my PC and I have no internet connection to look the troubleshooting tips up my PC will most likely be toasted.

malware has become common for Windows too, and we never moved to something else until Microslop really did their hardest to force people to move. And Windows itself is malware (+ ransomware + spyware + bloatware), so Linux wins again...

All of a sudden people want to play Fortnite on Linux and all that kind of crap.
But it wasn't supposed to be like that in the first place.

Back in the day Linux used to be a refuge
Now it's the wild west
See the XZ backdoor incident + recent AUR incident

The more people adopt it for desktop use the more malware incidents we will see

A big misconception that beginners have is that Linux is more secure. It’s not!

Time to move to another OS :ROFLMAO:

Fr tho, shit became too mainstream. Someone understands me lol. Honestly learning OpenBSD basics at this point. Not sure what to do about my phone though. Android - castrated Linux 🙁.

I didn't say that it's booming, you guys really do love hating on me for not being a cuck for Microslop anymore. Shows who the real shills are I guess :)
Well, if you call noobs cucks you probably deserves it.
