Open AI has signed an agreement with the government of Malta to provide the entire population of the country with Chat GPT's plus subscription for one year.

Reuters reports .

But first, the approximately 575,000 Maltese must take a free course on how to use AI.

"We are turning an unfamiliar concept into practical help for our families, students and workers," said Malta's Finance Minister Silvio Schembri in a statement.

According to Reuters, the country is the first to launch such a program. It is unclear how much it will cost.

Bold move by the finance minister

On a side note Malta is a country I would want to Visit one day

This is brilliant

Hehe, Malta is where I could retire.

I bet many sugar daddies there.

Yes, that is exactly what it is, more opportunities for their people to up their IT knowledge and stay competitive.

Not only that, think about all the foreign money they'll tax that way. Fuckn brilliant!!!

I wonder what they're getting out of it tho. 🤔
I remember I looked into getting a bank account there lol
Hey me too! I read an article once about that being a good place to open an offshore bank account but I forgot why it was good.

I know why they bought it.

Because limits on free version these days are so low it's better to take notes by yourself and use checklists instead of asking AI.

Nobody wants to use this with limits. Imagine Google had limits on every 3 queries... then you use captcha breaker or proxy. Damn it.

Educated people, same as my country subsidized computers by up to 50% off in the mid 90s that cost billions to fund by the government.

Oh we have many social benefits in Poland here.

If you start a business, you can get a lot of money... enough to live for 2 years. :P
I don't know if it's applicable to black hat or onlyfans though.

Teachers (700k ppl out of 40m population) get cheaper laptops.

"Teachers receive vouchers worth PLN 2,500 for the purchase of laptops"

How come you get a lot of money when starting a business in Poland? You need your own deposit or guarantor to receive the grant. You can't just walk in like this without money and get money to start a business. I had clients that took this grant, they had this amount of money already in a bank account, their own money locked down, they couldn't use it during the duration they received the grant. If they broke grant conditions they would loose the grant and they also loose their own money that they used as guarantee. Unless something changed, but that's how it worked last time I was into it (had clients like these, also at some point I was checking if I'm eliglible).

There are some funds for already functioning companies, it's called de minimis or something? Used to talk with some software company founder from our local business incubator, she took some EU money (that's a different thing that Unemployment Office grant I mentioned above) and she complained so much... So much bureacracy and complexity, she couldn't really use this money the way she wanted... Was really warning me about this and recommending not to take that. Meanwhile some guy from our Polytechnic got some US Silicon Valley funding and he was soooo happy, smiling from ear to ear lol. His company broke google 😆, he got so much funding from US that his site is basically on top of google search results, that's how you actually win the SEO game, I guess. These polish grants are crappy / basically non-existent / a form of unhealthy loan or basically you'll loose money. EU ones... I guess you get something, but extreme bureacracy is just not worth it. You won't be able to touch this money other than what they tell you to spend on so you basically stop controlling your own company, government does. Not good.

Poland is obsessed with kids so yes - teachers, kids, families with kids will get things. Families with multiple kids have special card that entitles them to cheaper groceries, so as a single person you pay idk 5 times more for food than families with kids ugh.

I trolled. I admit. I was in funky mood and I still am.
 I know it's almost impossible, but there are many ways and you could do it as a hobby, not really expecting to win that money.

Dude, I mean, who wouldn't want that grant for starting a business... But it's more like 0% loan against your money that you lock in a bank account. Or some other person with money can guarantee for you.

Ah also this works for sole proprietors only, which pay highest taxes. You can't open Sp. z o.o. / LTD with this.

Cool idea. I’m happy for the people of Malta who actually want to use it.
