The forum isn't even ready, let's be honest... but it's already packed in my opinion.

Lots and lots of things to do, but the activity is significant considering this is still bare bones (somewhat)

These bare bones are already beating the Warrior Forum lol :D

I don't know, it feels like that for me at least.

What do you think?

It's very active here; I woke up yesterday to 78 alerts, and that's with the feature that combines alerts if you get a bunch of reactions!

We still have a lot of work to do here with improving the existing features, and you can see how much we do with that in the changelog each day, but if this keeps up, we're going to have an even more active community here next month.

To me, it just feels like a lot of fun, and I'm pretty excited to see what the future holds for Office Outlaw.

When advertisement banners?
no-never.gif

I am really missing black hat element here.
We went for implication over outright stating "black hat" on the forum. However, if you feel like something's missing, I'd be interested in knowing what you think could be added in to give it more of that feel. :)

The forum has been growing pretty fast - it's been really nice to see.

I know there's still a lot to do, but the growth and engagement we're already getting has been very encouraging.

It will take time to become giant one. I am really missing black hat element here.

Do you mean you'd like to see more guides and methods here? Or something else?

You are not planning to display banners on this forum? It needs to make revenue mate.

I am more than sure @Festinger Vault is already itching to buy any and all advertisement space out :D
I know it needs to make revenue, but it’s something I really don’t want to do here.

I just want try something different with this. I feel like I can pull that off as well.

It's a pretty bold move.

There are advertisers on the other marketplace/forum who don't shy away in paying $100,000 a year for marketing, and that's per account.

I pay my small $5000 a year, but it's still per my account... how many other people are there like me... the sums are huge, at some point you've got to acknowledge that.

I hear that a lot about the moves I make. 😁

I know there’s a lot of money in banner ads, I can acknowledge that. However, believe me when I say that I would rather make less money than have ads up on this forum. I don’t have anything against anyone else putting them up on their sites or even putting their own banners in their signatures (I see that as their space), but there’s something that doesn’t feel right about putting my own ads in the header, footer, sidebar, etc.

I know that’s not common to hear or do in this industry, but I have turned down money and more lucrative opportunities in the past if I did not agree with them. Some people might think that’s stupid, but I am always glad I’ve made these kind of choices. In fact, the last lucrative opportunity I turned down back in 2018 would’ve paid about 120k/year. I turned it down to help a friend as I saw she needed it, and took that 40k/year position at the other forum instead. Even though I was not happy working there, I was happy about helping a friend, and it led to me meeting my wife.

I will need to properly sort out monetisation for this forum at some point as I do have my own expenses I need to cover, but even the alternate forms of monetisation we’re looking into would provide enough for us and to be able to invest in the forum.

If anything, I’d say I’m very good at finding creative solutions to these kind of problems, at least. ;)

Assumptions and opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. Clearly a forum has both or many.

There's other ways to monetise a forum without banner ads. Due to that there can be premiums had also. Anyhow.

I think the owners have a clear plan and goal set out.

Personally I don't think a "forum" has to be "ready" to launch these days most important bit is done. Its here it's working and people are registering it's just a forum being doing it's job. It would be a little different if it was an app launch or something, end of the day on face value it's a forum, donations are there to help with the starting set up and that and people who want to help, see nothing wrong with it.

Seems early on there is a community focused on tweaking and improving things with thoughts and ideas.

I mean that's great but eventually id imagine there will be more behind the scenes talk and discussion and will be a case of this is how it is - might take ages, eventually it does as you have to draw a line between how many chiefs and how many Indians you have..

There's nothing wrong with taking things slow. The whole IM industry seem to forget that, there's always a mad rush I can never figure out. - Well the obvious one is to make as much money in a short window then run like hell which tends to happen a lot. < note for any sensitive souls out there, this isn't a dig. Like an asshole it's just my opinion ;)

It's because well experienced people are running this forum.

EXactly .. ! This is what runs in the Minds most people...

I truly believe in the Legendary Administrators @Zwielicht and @Impulse .. and their Admin Team includes @Apricot .. They always do the Job Next Levels..

I really like this forum, especially the badge offers for different member levels, such as Hot Rod, Founding Member, Sapphire Member — and their colors look lovely. I wish to continue my journey here for a long time.

We, most of the Founding members are daily active looking for problems that can be fixed here, or even suggest on improvements. Those get handled in a timely manner. But that will eventually end, will that be the end of the barebone chapter ? I think we will be way past that by then.

I for one am more active here than the other forum.

Issues I have with the other side.
------
1. Stalewater
There are no real practical methods or opportunities offered or talked about. I cannot recall if anything new/exciting has been shared in the last 2 years that was really actionable.

2. Crypto "scam"
Gambling and YOLO mindset is king. Someone got lucky and earned some $$$$$ on pump.fun makes a thread and a few dozen get urged to join in 99.9% have probably lost more than earned back.

3. Reddit section & marketplace
The reddit section gets dominated by the same few people. Every thread it is the same damn answer that they give. I mean there is really nothing else that they can say and it is not their fault. Everything depends on IP, fingerprints.

But then those sellers go on to sell Accounts on the marketplace!!! The accounts get banned on first login or first post. Guess what seller will not refund you and say you didn't warm up the account. That is really scummy, they are not getting actioned. Also most of them have a clause which says buy a small batch of accounts first to test first.

4. Not inviting to new users. ( never was)

Newcomers get send a wall of text ( same size as Terms and Conditions) that nobody is going to read. After which they make their first post with a question that has been asked over and over again. They are not going to use the search bar to find a potential answer. Nope members have found a more entertaining way, which is troll the OP or giving breadcrumbs and generalized/bad information. This is not only done by member but also by staff.

Example: Someone got a C&D from Meta he asked if it was legit and if he should take it seriously. First comment was by a staff which stated that he never got one from Meta and that notice would be great wallpaper if applied correctly.

OP quoted and replied that he really need advice.
Mod : Ignore the C&D.
OP makes a few more posts but the staff member is never seen in that thread again. Other members have helped the OP somewhat, from Ignore, get legal advice.

One member even stated that someone on that forum got in huge legal trouble for ignoring a C&D from Meta ( no idea how true that is but if true kinda reckless to say to ignore the notice especially as a staff)

* some of you like the person from having interacted with him on the platform, others are friends, have worked together and even met in person.

5. Mentorship are SCAM!
That place detest mentorships. I agree that most of the courses offered are hugely overpriced. But sometimes you do have good courses where you can learn practical and applicable information.
I am not in the Creative media space, but during my search on how to photoshop a certain thing I came across an old course of Chris Do ( The Futur), this was a paid, in person seminar, but got recorded for socials I suppose. Anyways from that video I learned on how to do my pricing better, and for most of the services I have offered since I have used that method.
So NO I did not pay for a mentorship, some people did but got the same Information I have gotten waaay sooner, and with help.

I really hope we do not turn this forum into a place like that.

Take 121 Karma to round it to 1000..

Your post is so on point.

I totally agree about stalewater. Any new kind of thinking is hushed out by the bigger posters who everyone else follows and thinks the old ways work and always do.

I always remember the welcomes posts are " use the search bar for gold " and despite having taken part in a few crypto posts over there I totally hated that section.

I never really wanted to leave the way I did, but glad when that choice was taken away from me.

I've spoken to some of the people on here already and I keep threating to meet up with 1 or 2 and a bring a few good choice bottles with me and site around a fire. I did just miss having a place where I can just share ideas and not just that but also gauge and ask questions, in the real world if I ever wanted to ask advice or brainstorm with another party who had a skill set we didn't have internally I always paid. It's nice to just not do that and shoot a problem on a forum like the old days :)

But that will eventually end, will that be the end of the barebone chapter ?
I think we can consider it as ended once the marketplace has been moderately filled with services.

That implies there are sellers, buyers and there is some consistent activity going on.

If you have an IM-related forum with a marketplace section, it usually should attract sellers looking to expand their business... but if the marketplace never fills, that's perhaps not a very good sign. (I'm sure it will tho)
