So I've just had to go through this pointless bloody system where I have to prove that I am me to the government that already know that I am me, just so that my business of over a decade is legit. I know, all very important stuff.

To do this, I had to scan my passport using an app on my phone. After deafening the Mrs with a diatribe of how fucking useless and costly this whole system is, and that it is only good for enriching one of (maybe more than one) their mates, I thought fug it, I'll just do it.

After I proved that I was me, I summarily tried to give it the customary 1 star (0 would have been my preference) with a scathing review. At this point I was informed that my review wasn't saved as it couldn't be sent to the server. Weird... ah well, I'll try again in a bit.

I have tried since and get the same message.

When I leave a review on other apps, it goes through just fine.

So how do I think they are colluding to lie to us (I am an avid conspiracy theory engager, for transparency)? Well I see that the app has 4.2 stars out of 35k reviews. Weird that they have 32k reviews but it is not possible to leave a review... hey ho, off we go.

So I thought I'd see why so many people have given it 5 stars. What was it that they liked, and what was so appealing about an app that is forced on people, and is unpopular enough that the government itself points out that you can remove the app after verification.

On looking at the reviews, I saw this.

Now I am getting older so maybe it my eyesight but all I am seeing is 1 stars with the occasaional smattering of 2 or 3 star reviews.

How in the name of sweet baby Jesus did they manage a 4.3 star rating with 1-3 star reviews (mostly 1 star). Also, can app vendors just turn off reviews when they start going bad?

In the grand scheme of things, I've spent about 20mins ranting about a process that took me about 3minutes 27 seconds to complete.

I don't have much of a point to end this post with. I will await the derisive replies about how pedantic I am and how pointless this entire post was.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Yup, the good oul 4-5 stars pass, and below 3 gets sent a nice apology

Broader than we think

Whatever way they try to spin it, that is, essentially, propaganda. You can watch youtube guides of people showing how to use the app and every comment is about how shit and pointless the whole setup is.

There is not a person on earth that has given this a positive rating anywhere (non-scientific claim, don't ask me to back it up) and reviews are disabled, with most existing reviews being 1, and yet here we are, looking at a 4.3 star rating.

Ah shit, I made a mistake.

The rating isn't 4.3, it is 4.4.

I've had marketing managers say that's good business practice

good for business, not for the end-user

Basically just to try and control people for why the app here.

I suspect in the near future this will get hacked.

I hate when companies or businesses use that trick for negative reviews. I don't expect the government to be better, but it's supposed to be. And, I mean, if you're basically being forced to use it, why does it need good reviews anyway? It's not like you have a competitor you can go to instead.

I had a local doctor I tried to give a negative review on google, but it got removed. They probably reported it to google saying I wasn't a real patient or some shit, even though I had been a patient of theirs for years before they went downhill.

I been out drinking 4 till 8.i saw this thread and had high hopes.

I dunno what the fuck its on about or the problem.

What's wrong if I'm a sober 5 year old?

Just ranting about shit really. The UK gov is forcing us to use an app that seems to have an overwhelming amount of bad reviews, mostly 1* with a few 2 and 3* reviews. It's just low review scores for as long as you scroll down, yet they apparently have a 4.4 star average and are not allowing anymore reviews on the app.

They have forced every director and person of significant control of a company to verify their identity by having to use multiple devices and scanning your face and passport with the camera and then again with the RFID chip. It's pretty wild stuff really.

At this rate, they know everything about me, except how hairy my arsehole is, and I half expect that to be on the next census.
