So I've just had to go through this pointless bloody system where I have to prove that I am me to the government that already know that I am me, just so that my business of over a decade is legit. I know, all very important stuff.
To do this, I had to scan my passport using an app on my phone. After deafening the Mrs with a diatribe of how fucking useless and costly this whole system is, and that it is only good for enriching one of (maybe more than one) their mates, I thought fug it, I'll just do it.
After I proved that I was me, I summarily tried to give it the customary 1 star (0 would have been my preference) with a scathing review. At this point I was informed that my review wasn't saved as it couldn't be sent to the server. Weird... ah well, I'll try again in a bit.
I have tried since and get the same message.
When I leave a review on other apps, it goes through just fine.
So how do I think they are colluding to lie to us (I am an avid conspiracy theory engager, for transparency)? Well I see that the app has 4.2 stars out of 35k reviews. Weird that they have 32k reviews but it is not possible to leave a review... hey ho, off we go.
So I thought I'd see why so many people have given it 5 stars. What was it that they liked, and what was so appealing about an app that is forced on people, and is unpopular enough that the government itself points out that you can remove the app after verification.
On looking at the reviews, I saw this.
Now I am getting older so maybe it my eyesight but all I am seeing is 1 stars with the occasaional smattering of 2 or 3 star reviews.
How in the name of sweet baby Jesus did they manage a 4.3 star rating with 1-3 star reviews (mostly 1 star). Also, can app vendors just turn off reviews when they start going bad?
In the grand scheme of things, I've spent about 20mins ranting about a process that took me about 3minutes 27 seconds to complete.
I don't have much of a point to end this post with. I will await the derisive replies about how pedantic I am and how pointless this entire post was.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
