Is SEMrush still the number 1. SEO tool suite?

I've always likes Ahrefs above anything, especially from UX perspective, sadly the entry barrier makes every indie hacker move to semrush.

SEMRush won against Ahrefs every time I tested them head to head.
For some reason Ahrefs has this unjust aura that SEOers are drawn to. I have no idea why..

Some people have asserted that the Ahrefs Backlink data specifically is more elaborate and up to date. I have not verified that myself so I can’t agree or disagree personally.

None of them made the test, I guarantee it.

been using Semrush On/Off for years. Always has been my go to instead of ahref.

Not a fan of either to be honest.

The data is only as good as the amount of people who sign up and share access to search console - that's what I think anyway.

That said we do use both BUT just the free versions. We use SEMrush to check daily traffic and we get the free email once a month from Ahrefs for overall site health etc when we where paying for it.

I try to move our SEO beyond the need of a tool and keyword to be honest both are outdated systems now.

I prefer Semrush to Ahrefs. The credit structure on Ahrefs was stupid and I know SEO guys who were running up crazy high surcharges.

Very true I knew when they did the bigger price increase I think it was 2 years ago a load of SEO cancelled their agency accounts I imagine Ahrefs may lost million or so plus some moved onto Serpstat which some still prefer over Ahrefs I joined a call in the past with some other SEO to talk to Tim about it had no clue or had any idea how to answer the questions so most left the call then cancelled from that call alone lost $20,000 per month

The answer is Yes for the thread title ..

It's one of the best tools, compared to the cost and performance it's really best tool. But it's really needs to go for long distance to reach the number one place.

What would you consider the best, and why?

SEMrush is still a top SEO tool, but not the only leader. Ahrefs, Moz, and others are just as strong, depending on what you need.

What specific areas did SEMrush outperform Ahrefs in when you tested them head-to-head? Was it keyword data, backlink analysis, site audits, or something else? Always looking to understand these comparisons better.

Semrush is really good, and I can get it for around $10 every 14 days from certain sellers. The downside is that I have to keep switching accounts to keep the cost low, and adding projects isn't an option with these temporary accounts.

On the other hand, the free Ahrefs account integrated with Google Search Console is great - I can add projects without having to switch accounts. However, the features are quite limited.
