It's about time I get a new computer.

Now, leave the OS battle outside for a sec because I use both PC and Mac and they both suck equally and I'm not smart enough for unix/linux or whatever you clever youngsters use.

I'll buy a PC too soon, I promise.

What's the difference between M4 and M5 (not pro or max)? I aim for the 14" screen if it matters.

While on Apple M5 you get 30 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077, the game is unplayable on M4 with 20 FPS.
That's the main difference.
The same applies to other things, the difference in performance is 10 - 30% depending on scenario.

been using M4 14" more than year and it been solid so far i almost did all the haviest work never felt lag or slowness

I can't see myself play anything on a macbook. Almost my entire GOG library is PC exclusive

Think about ecology, you can save so much power if you play on Apple M5.

I think it's a good machine if you want to travel. Probably the best actually. Not Pro or Max version!

Does M5 have any benefits in performance or is it just better for cows?

Faster SSD, slightly faster videos and images render times, better for local AI. 10 - 30% better depending on scenario.

It's not noticeable if you don't render or generate with AI 24/7.

As I seen it, it is a new architecture and will handle things a lot faster .. My own motto when it comes to computers is to uy as fast as possible I can afford for being able to enjoy it for a couple more years before I need to upgrade again. Set a budget and maxout that budget.

Did exactly what you said, turns out I'm deciding between the M5 and M5pro now.
The M5 pro/24gb ram is just a bit more expensive than the M5/32gb

I thought I was lost before - NOW I'm really lost because I can't understand why 24gb is faster than 32gb, not really sure what ram does or what's the difference.

Save the money and buy some real useful gadgets.

Maybe you're comparing M5 Pro chip with M5 chip?
It's not only MacBook Pro and Macbook Air. It's
  • MacBook Air with M5 chip.
  • MacBook Pro with M5 chip.
  • MacBook Pro with M5 Pro chip.

This naming is confusing, can't deny.

Personally I'd go with Macbook Neo with A18 Pro chip.

These are the ones I'm deciding between:
MacBook Pro with M5 chip
MacBook Pro with M5 Pro chip

There's also the max version but I can't see why I need it.

The difference between these is clear.
MacBook Pro with M5 Pro chip has 15 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores minimum.
MacBook Pro with M5 chip has 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores minimum.

RAM is not the core reason computers are powerful. :ROFLMAO:

What is the price difference in your case? If it is not that much, go with the Pro version.

I’d say the M5 is a bit of an upgrade in terms of performance and efficiency, especially for things like multitasking or heavy apps, but for general use, you might not notice a huge difference.

So go with this?
MacBook Pro with M5 Pro chip
Or maybe just wait for M6?

I doubt anyone buys Macbook for extra 8 GB RAM. ;)
I'd rather pick bigger SSD than 8 GB RAM. Powerful GPU or CPU? even better
