Agree with this..But this is a forum. Free mentoring is allowed by default anyway, or am I missing something?
You make a post, ask for help, and if you are lucky, somebody is willing to help you.
Or I am going to contact someone directly via DMs for assistance.
I don't know, this is a bit odd and confusing. Mods couldn't regulate it in any way if anyone offered free mentoring. How do you distinguish that from giving general advice, or when someone requires a more personal approach and wants to talk in depth about something?
It says it’s allowed. The only change in Z’s post is that paid mentoring in the marketplace isn’t allowed.Agree with this..
This comes down to IM industry confusing mentoring and coaching. As I tried to say before half the users here don't know what mentoring is.
Theres plenty of people who I've helped or pointed along the way with ideas and that via dms on here and elsewhere, they come back and ask questions and so on.
The changes outlined here seems like that's not allowed.
I've also asked for help and advice from members here via dm as they know personal info about my company and situation I don't want public.
They have shared plenty of guidance and support on different areas of discussion around the problem topic.
So that's now no longer allowed?
I don't get how it's policed anyway. You can't stop anyone dm'ing someone and asking for help.
It might seem like it should be obvious since, yeah, it's the default, but it isn't obvious to others. It's why when this thread was started, some people weren't sure if "free mentoring" was allowed.
This is nothing more than a clarifying point to tell others, "yes, this is fine to do"; if that makes sense.
Well, after reviewing this again, I think the best option is to prohibit paid mentoring but allow free mentoring, that way someone like t2van can help others without worrying about breaking any rules.
In terms of paid mentoring being prohibited, this means members wouldn't be able to make paid requests for mentoring in the Wanted section and traders couldn't sell mentoring services in the Service Listings section. The TOS and the Trading Post rules will be updated to further define what mentoring is, but as a loose definition for now, 1-on-1 or "Teacher/Sensei/whatever" situations are prohibited.
