I've created this forum with the goal of transparency in mind. Essentially, all of the rules should be viewable only in this thread and in the terms of service. Not only are all of the rules listed, but the reasons for these rules are alongside them.

As this forum grows, links to section specific rules will be added to this opening post.

Office Outlaw Rules

1. Forum Conduct

  • 1.1 Age Restriction
You must be 18 years of age or older to have an account on Office Outlaw.
  • 1.2 Member Abuse
Abusing any member through excessive trolling, impersonation (directly pretending to be another member, which also includes signing up under their known user handles in the community or with obvious variations of these handles), doxxing, or commentary regarding their race, age, gender, etc is prohibited. Arguments are not considered member abuse. "You're stupid" types of comments are not prohibited (unless they become excessive and arbitrary, like by following someone around the forum and making random insults), just discouraged. Libelous accusations against members are prohibited as well.
  • 1.3 Language Rules
As far as the public forums are concerned, we only allow English on them. However, you are free to write in another language over the direct messaging system or in a private section like the Sapphire Section.
  • 1.4 Spam Rules
Using AI language models to post in an egregious way (e.g., copy/pasting direct answers) that our community notices is prohibited. However, you may use AI language models for research, to clean up spelling and grammar, or any other way that isn't simply a copy/pasted answer. Additionally, inflating your message count by posting nonsense (e.g., "gdrsyesrgtfggfdg" ten times in a row) is prohibited.
  • 1.5 Account Rules
Multiple accounts are permitted so long as you don't use them to violate any of the other rules listed here. Should any of your multiple accounts be banned, all of the accounts that we link to you will also be banned. Additionally, if you accrue more than 20 notice points across all of your accounts, all of them will be banned from our platform.
  • 1.6 Leaking Rules
Leaking content from hidden sections or leaking products and services found on OO or offered by a member of OO is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught doing this will have their membership status permanently revoked and may be removed from the platform.
  • 1.7 Avatar Rules
Avatars must abide by the other rules on this forum. If you decide to use your company logo as your avatar, ensure it stays as just a logo or the business name, and avoid anything that comes across as an advertisement (e.g., "buy our links now).

2. Content & Posting Rules

  • 2.1 Hacking Is Prohibited
This means discussions and requests to hack are prohibited. However, discussions on how to protect your site from hacking are permitted (here come the loopholes… 😉). This includes, but in not limited to: botnets, RATs, zero-day exploit shares, account cracking, DDoS attacks, phishing, malware.
  • 2.2 Scamming
Scamming in any way, shape or form is prohibited on Office Outlaw. Anyone who scams in our community will be removed from the platform.
  • 2.3 No Adult Content or NSFW Material
All content (including avatars) must remain safe for work. This means no nudity, explicit imagery, or sexually suggestive content.
  • 2.4 No Illegal Content
This includes phishing, pirated or stolen goods, cookie stuffing, selling fake identities, and other illegal or fraud-based activities.
  • 2.5 No Negative SEO, ORM, or Rep Attacks
We're here to build, not to harm other people's businesses or your competitors. Requests or discussions around negative SEO are not permitted.
  • 2.6 Discriminatory commentary
This is a multi-cultural forum where our members have a wide variety of backgrounds. Therefore, keep any discriminatory commentary to yourself.
  • 2.7 Deliberate malware distribution is prohibited.
This means that if you're caught distributing malware deliberately, your account will be removed from our platform.

3. Sales & Promotion

  • 3.1 Selling Outside of the Trading Post
Advertising outside of the trading post is not permitted outside of the following circumstances:
    • You can mention your approved service(s) on your profile if you have a listing in our Trading Post.
    • You can advertise in your signature as a Sapphire, Platinum or Founding member.
  • 3.2 Signature Rules
  • Because our system automatically adjusts text size and images when they're larger than the max size, we do not have any signature specific notices on Office Outlaw.
    • The maximum signature text size is "15". If you try to use text size larger than this, the text will automatically be adjusted to the maximum allowed size when you save the changes.
    • Registered members can have text signatures comprising of 3 lines and no links. Bear in mind that our other rules apply here.
    • Ko-fi links are permitted for all members who can use signatures.
    • Sapphire, Platinum, and Founding members may include an image banner in their signature in place of text.
    • Max image size: 728x90px (standard leaderboard ad size). You do not have to worry about the image exceeding this as our site automatically adjusts large images in signatures to the maximum allowed size.
    • Sapphire, Platinum, and Founding members may have a maximum of 3 links. Our site automatically automatically lets you know if there are too many links before saving the changes, so don't worry about going over this.
  • 3.3 No Contests Without Approval
Contests require prior admin approval due to potential legal implications.

4. Moderation Rules

  • 4.1 Your Content Can Be Moderated
Moderators and admins can moderate your content and are permitted to remove or edit it to comply with our rules.
  • 4.2 Content Agreement
By posting, you allow OO to use, display, or republish your content. Threads or posts you submit to the forum may be shared in newsletters or in official social media accounts for Office Outlaw.
  • 4.3 Rule Updates
We try to announce major changes, but our rules can change at any time. Please try to stay up to date with our rules to the best of your ability.
  • 4.4 Manual Account Approvals
Any accounts that require manual approval may be rejected by our moderation team if we suspect any potential abuse or ill-intentions toward our community. More specifically, those banned from other platforms for scamming community members will be rejected.
  • 4.5 Moving Threads
Threads may be moved by our moderation team if they've been placed in the incorrect section. Additionally, if a discussion becomes heated, controversial, or otherwise negative, our moderation team may move the thread to the Sapphire Section so that the discussion may continue out of public view. These discussions must still abide by the other rules of the forum.
  • 4.6 Bans
Temporary bans are automatically issued after having over 10 active notice points. Permanent bans may applied for continuous rule violations, reaching 20 notice points, or violating any of the instant ban rules mentioned here.

We’re going to be expanding these out today and adding anything mentioned in these site guides to the TOS.

Rule 2: Hacking Is Prohibited
This means discussions and requests to hack are prohibited.

Discussions on how to protect your site from hacking are permitted (here come the loopholes... ;)).
Should this be more fleshed out?
How about
Botnets – Creating, distributing, or managing networks of compromised devices

RATs (Remote Access Trojans) – Sharing or discussing tools used for unauthorised remote access

Exploits and zero-days – Sharing methods for exploiting vulnerabilities in software or hardware or even websites...

Account cracking – Accessing or attempting to access accounts without permission

DDoS attacks – Discussing or promoting distributed denial of service tools or methods

Phishing – Creating or sharing deceptive methods to steal user information

Malware development – Writing, modifying, or distributing malicious software

and lastly everyone's favorite
Doxing - doxing..

How about Language?
Is it Strictly English only here or other language posts/threads are welcome too?

Oh, I guess I never specified that.

English on the public forums, although you can speak another language over DM or in a private area like the Sapphire Section. I'll add that to the rules in a bit.

In regards to the Sapphire section, one thing I would consider were language-specific sections at some point. I still need to look into how to make that work without making it really complicated to keep things organised, though.

Edit: there you go.
Rule 12: Language Rules
As far as the public forums are concerned, we only allow English on them. However, you are free to write in another language over the direct messaging system or in a private section like the Sapphire Section.

Someone asked me what would happen if a member did something to me specifically here. I'm going to use the description for the member abuse rule as an example.
Rule 7: Member Abuse
Abusing a member through excessive trolling or commentary regarding their race, age, gender, etc is prohibited.

To define this further, arguments are not considered member abuse. "You're stupid" types of comments are not prohibited, just discouraged.
So according to this rule, if a member gets into an argument and calls someone here stupid, that's not considered member abuse. But what if the situation occurred with me or another staff member?

Well, it's still not member abuse. We wouldn't like it nor would it be very nice, but it's not against the rules.

What I'm trying to say is that the staff are held to the same rules as members; there aren't separate rules for staff. It's why we don't specifically have a staff abuse notice, because any abuse that is prohibited is all just member abuse.

But while we're here, the only time someone would get a notice for that is if they were following a member around the forum and saying "You're stupid" to every post they make. At that point, it's just considered excessive trolling, and that's when it would become member abuse.

Sir we don't have warnings here, we have notices.

We've updated these rules again so that they're easier to go through. We've also added more clarification on the current rules.

Keep in mind we're still discussing what counts as political or religious content. I encourage all of you to participate in this thread so that we can clarify these rules.

Can we add racist comments somewhere under rule 2?
I was thinking rule 1.2 covers that, but now that you mention it, someone could just come on here and start posting racial remarks about someone who isn't a member and say that it's not against the rules.

All right, I'll add that in. Nice spot there!

Edit: Okay, I added 2.6 in to cover this loophole.
2.6 Discriminatory commentary
This is a multi-cultural forum where our members have a wide variety of backgrounds. Therefore, keep any discriminatory commentary to yourself.
I've also added a point in about when we move threads, just so everyone is aware. This was done as our team decided to move a more controversial thread to the Sapphire Saloon recently.
4.5 Moving Threads
Threads may be moved by our moderation team if they've been placed in the incorrect section. Additionally, if a discussion becomes heated, controversial, or otherwise negative, our moderation team may move the thread to the Sapphire Section so that the discussion may continue out of public view. These discussions must still abide by the other rules of the forum.

Also include downloads of Viruses / Trojans.

Anyone found doing this on purpose should be instantly banned.

I think we can all agree that there are a few things that should result in an instant ban. Making the distinction of doing it on purpose is important

I added that in as rule 2.7.
2.7 Deliberate malware distribution is prohibited.
This means that if you're caught distributing malware deliberately, your account will be removed from our platform.
It'll also be mentioned in the Downloads section rules.
