Thanks to a suggestion by @roydan that was voted on by the community, we've made an adjustment to our Trading Post.

There's a new section called "Archived Service Listings". It's where we'll move any sales listings that were either closed by the staff due to quality issues or by the request of the trader.

This archive section appears as a subforum under the Service Listings forum as it's meant to be more out of the way, yet still publicly accessible.

A few other points to make about this new section can be found below:
  • Threads in this section will not appear on the "What's New" page.
  • Threads in this section are not indexed.
  • Threads in this section will not appear on the homepage feed.
  • The NLA (no longer available) and Closed prefixes are used in this subforum.

As part of our Trading Post re-work, we made some final major adjustment to the way we'll be handling Tribunal threads.

We are looking for feedback on how it works, so if you're interested in knowing more about it, you can read and respond to the announcement thread here.

Edit:
I've also allowed Platinum members the ability to access the Sapphire section. This is just to be more consistent with how other "higher" usergroup levels work on OO.

Just a small update today, but we now lock birthday threads after 48 hours after a suggestion created by @t2van and voted on by the community was implemented.

Aside from finishing up with the newsletter, @Impulse and I spent today tidying up the sections and turning the less active ones into prefixes.

After handling a few reports today, @Steve suggested to us that we add discrimination against someone's social class to rule 2.6. We agreed that this was necessary, so classism will no longer be tolerated on OO and will result in notices going forward.

2.6 Discriminatory Commentary

This is a multicultural forum. Comments that are discriminatory on the basis of someone's race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, social class or nationality will not be tolerated.

Just a simple update today. It's January, so the festive decorations had to come down :(.

That's right, the logo has been changed back to the regular one we use.

Just a couple of updates today.
Because suggestions are now locked after two weeks, I'll be going through the older ones and implementing or rejecting them.

There are a few updates today that pertain to the forum's organization.

As we're all aware, The Saloon is kind of the section we all use when we don't know where to post a thread or if we're too lazy to post in the right section (maybe I've done this once or twice myself ;)). The staff here will just move the thread to the correct section, no big deal.

Having these threads in the correct section does two things in particular: it shows others where to post similar content and shows lurkers our forum has real variety and is not just The Saloon.

Okay, I've droned on enough today. Here are the updates:
  • Threads in The Saloon have been sorted with their proper prefixes since many of the earlier threads didn't have any prefixes. We're still going through this one today, so just be aware that threads are still being moved.
  • All threads with the Computing prefix have been moved to the Work Life section.
  • The Computing prefix has been removed from The Saloon and moved to the Work Life section.
  • The Movies prefix in The Saloon has been renamed to Movies & Shows. Many members talk about shows here, but I didn't to make a separate prefix for just Shows.
  • The "General Marketing" section has been renamed to just "Marketing". I mean seriously, calling a section "General Whatever" is broad enough on its own.

Today's updates are focused on the karma system. We'll be looking over other ways to improve it, so be sure to look out for more updates on this.
  • The amount of karma you receive after completing various actions on the forum has been increased. The karma site guide has been updated to reflect these changes.
  • Thanks to a suggestion by @roydan, the redundant alert you receive for donating karma has been removed. This was also probably the fastest I've seen the community upvote a suggestion recently.

Just a few updates today.
  • As suggested by @roydan and voted on by the community, threads in the Newcomer's Camp section are now auto-locked after 14 days.
  • There's a new sticky thread in the Newcomer's Camp section explaining the auto-lock feature. More content will be added to this thread at a later point.
  • This auto-lock feature has also been added to the Forum Suggestions and Sapphire Suggestions sections.

There’s a single update today. The list of subforums has been reorganised to be in alphabetical order. It’s just so it’s not a messy list of subforums.

I've got a couple of updates for our Outlaws today.
  • The old newsletter thread in The Saloon has been repurposed. You can read more about that here.
  • A new prefix called "New Member" has been added to the Newcomer's Camp section. I thought about calling it "New Outlaw", but decided to go with member just so it's clearer to everyone. This prefix has been retroactively applied to all existing Newcomer's Camp threads. It's the only prefix in there, and you may be wondering why does that section need a prefix? Well, it's actually to make new member threads more obvious on the homepage.

Yeah, I know, I've been making a lot of updates to the forum lately.

Today's updates are quality of life updates for both moderators and members in regards to the notice system (which you may know as "warnings" on other forums).
  • Moderators will simply notice that issuing notices is a much more pleasant experience, showing past notices issued on the notices page as well as an improved view of the list of notices moderators can issue.
  • For members, you can now view the notices you've received and any actions that resulted from notices directly on your profile. If you've received any, a new tab will appear on your profile that only you and the moderation team can see called "Notices". Expired notices will be greyed out and active ones will be green. Additionally, when you receive a notice, you'll automatically receive an alert saying what you received the notice for, how many points you received, and at what time the notice was received.

Finally, in case you're wondering, I've written notice or notices 15 times in this post. :(

January is already almost over?

Well, we've done a lot of update this month. Today's update was just a lot of bug fixes.
  • Improved support for Safari browsers.
  • Bug fixes to our elastic search feature.
  • Bug fixes for our bot detection system.
  • Bug fixes to our alert system.
  • A fix for the URLs that are sent when a user receives a new star.
  • Improvements and fixes to our highlight feature. Moderators will note that it's easier to highlight threads. I'm looking into something for some of our members in regards to this, so I'll post more about that later.
  • Our built-in support desk has been updated to have better compatibility with the forum.
As usual, if anyone notices any issues, please let the moderation team know in the forum suggestions section.

January 26, 2026 Part 2

I felt a little inspired today to fix something that's been bothering me for a long time.

Let's be real here, the highlight feature was a really bright purple to the point of being fugly. I've made it a darker purple so that it's more subtle, matches the rest of the forum, yet still stands out.

If this was also bothering you, then you're welcome.

Update: @SilverClouds pointed out to us that it was really dark on the light theme. That was an oversight on my part and @Impulse and I fixed it.

  • First, the major update today: thanks to a suggestion made by @Dev, we FINALLY have automatic cryptocurrency upgrades. That's right, you no longer have to send in a support ticket, pay manually, and wait for an administrator to upgrade you. You can find more details about this update here.
  • Second, the 50% discounted version of Patron is now available to Platinum members. It was supposed to be originally, but I noticed whilst I was working on all of this that I never actually ticked the box when I set it up.
  • Third, that crypto site guide has been updated.

February 1, 2026

I meant to post this one yesterday.
  • A suggestion I made was voted on and implemented to auto-lock threads in the Wanted section after 2 weeks.
