These videos are oddly satisfying to watch. However, I’ve heard that the work culture in Japan can be brutal. I wouldn’t want to trade places with them.
Damn so work culture is brutal but they live long isn't this contradictoryThese videos are oddly satisfying to watch. However, I’ve heard that the work culture in Japan can be brutal. I wouldn’t want to trade places with them.
karōsh this is true. No denying that. But the recent generations are bit more loose.
karōsh was more because of the social peer pressure than the actual pressure from work most times. This is what I heard when I spoke to a few
I could be wrong. But i think the ground reality will be a mix of everything.
But what still amazed me is, they are all very friendly and helpful when asked for something. Plus they walk in a straight line. You walk on the right side when going forward. Left side is left for people who walk from the other side.
They wait in traffic lights even at 3 AM when roads are empty
I am not an expert with north, south, East asia politics, or work culture. But i still think things may not be as extreme as social media portrays things. If that were the case the whole society would have collapsed. They are still organized and definitely not in a zombie way![]()
Real af.Am I nosy because I ask questions to posts you and others post on a forum? I'm pretty sure that's how a forum works and social media.
Here's a hint for limiting social media and forum time in 2026 don't post your social life or problemsno one will ask anything to be considered nosy then.
Hell, even Poland has 10-12 hrs workdays + if you work in IT / software house you need to go to company events after work. These people aren't homeless, but then it's Poland, not Japan and they don't have medical debt. I'm appalled by how many people claim it's untrue (both here and in yt comments) and even make fun of homeless people and expect them to magically materialize a kitchen when they don't have an apartment. It's common knowledge karoshi exists, I remember reading about this years ago, I don't think there were videos by workers themselves available then. Sure japanese people also party a lot and have fun, weird fashion, these are known facts too, I'd assume these are higher up the social ladder than the homeless guy, obviously. We literally talked with our pharmacist friend from Poland couple days ago on video call and she complained so much about her 10-12 hours workdays, houndreds of patients, she of course worked on weekend as well and boss wanted her to give back money from her salary because some bitch carded the pharmacy (took a bunch of stuff, 'paid' by card, but the card was empty + she did a chargeback from empty card! Hell, I got interested, actually). So no, it's not jUsT sOmEtHiNG I sAw On SoCiAL MeDiA, I actually heard some horror stories from friends/acquaintances from Poland. I don't know any japanese people, but from these videos it seems they have it worse.I don't doubt some is lies or bs but when you got so much tv or articles all covering it be true.
It would make no sense for any government to lie about since it's not a good thing to be known for you also get word for community Japan refuse to work or study because of stress .
I also met a few Japanese who told it's true for why they left Japan. I also worked with few Japanese firms who told me it's pretty common in Japan.
Common knowledge Japanese nice plus Japan were heavy inspired by Prussia for how they act for walk in straight line or doing things like that.
Yes, I know you just had your 10 seconds of fame... You work at the grocery store / supermarket? Wow, what a successful person, you're literally below me on a social ladder and still have the audacity to post this shit. Mostly because you have no other success in life than posting boorish stuff on the internet. Me 'the broke version' is literally bouncing around 2 tropical islands and serviced apartment in Singapore's neighbour. Know your place.

I ignore you again. You literally contradict yourself, first you said that people have to deserve respect but you give it out like that, for free, to a random lowlife dude that has no humility whatsoever but I always get worse treatment from you just because I exist even if I'm more successful than him. Being poor or working is no shame, but he's very rude and disrespectful. If I were shopping at the store he's working in I'd ask for his manager and tell him he treats customers like shit. I see you found your student, which is what you wanted, enjoy. Ignored, bye.Jebus christ.
This is where you go to?
Knocking a guy for working. Who cares where or what's he's doing.
He's got a job while he builds up his business / brand. He's literally doing what your supposed to do.
What he's doing is right. Don't mater if it's in a supermarket, cleaning toilets or whatever. If it pays the bills then so be it.
He's working towards something. You don't know his circumstances and considering your first to flame anyone who judges yours. Your a fine one to talk.
I can not belive you judged him or anyone else on that bullshit. Pathetic.
Social standings? Wtf has that got to do with anything.
Least he can format his text and use a bloody paragraph.
Your ad hominems are funny though.Yes, I know you just had your 10 seconds of fame... You work at the grocery store / supermarket? She ain`t got any Jesus in her mental soul. Trash, talking shit about everyone.Jebus christ.
Oh yes. Me man. Me wrong.I ignore you again. You inviting me to UK in the past was very funny too, you think a woman would fly over to a grocery store worker? You have huge ego but that's about it. Great match with Dopious, I have no idea where all of you get that high esteem from, nobody ever humbled you enough I guessYour ad hominems are funny though.

Don't worry it will be 2026 soon
Yes I agree. But things are cooler now. The recent generations. But hustle culture and long work hours are some how an unfortunate peer pressure.I don't doubt some is lies or bs but when you got so much tv or articles all covering it be true.

Do you still do 12 hours or more now?Yes I agree. But things are cooler now. The recent generations. But hustle culture and long work hours are some how an unfortunate peer pressure.
Because for me my 20s and early 30s was always 12-14 hours and 6 days a week both when I was employee and now an employer for 9 years. Only the past few years i started to cool off on the hours. I don't know how to explain this feeling. For me without work I will have incredible void and depression.
The earlier days for me when I think about it was either the competition, scarcity of opportunities and peer pressure of my classmates doing better that builds up plus had to always show we were busy. The issue with india is, it's not 12-14 hours of dedicated work unlike those countries.
But with Japan or South Korea or Taiwan from my personal experience, it's dedicated work and they even take the most basic job with pride which isn't common in India.
I saw a 7 eleven worker who was mostly 17-19 years old, take 15 minutes of time to help me find a simple vegetarian food. It wasn't required to do that but he still did that. They all take pride to do their work and the way they have hacks and convience for simplest things is something I would hustle all year to be there. This is my POV, because grass is always green on the other side.
I was similarly mislead by some people about London and Paris. They told me things changed and its become very dangerous, racist. But i have had nothing but good experience. The only change i noticed in Paris is language. Now the waiters spoke English unlike many years ago when I had to start with Jai parllez un peu aglais, vous parllez anglais sil vous plait. They are still clean and organized expect for some spots which is common for any big city.
British are one of the most friendlist and genuinely helpful people I have ever meet so far. The fellow passengers help you in loading or lifting bags. Also the humor is witty.
Next comes Japan also very friendly. They are mostly quite in the metros or public places because they want to respect another person's privacy. But when you approach them for directions they go out of the way to walk with you for 600-1000 meters which is something I can still not fanthom.
So my only doubt is, if Japanese were so stressed how are very happy/efficient with work. Because I think stress breaks a person and makes them not function properly. I know this from experience as I have had stress and depression before in my late 20s.
After typing this long post I just realised we all should be happy with what we have as grass is greener on the other side. Maybe it's time for me to count the blessings and stop trying to fantasise living there and to stop being unhappy with my home country.
I get guilty on and off when I don't hustle that much. I sometimes still work 12 hours a day. Not always though. Age caught up and I get burned out fast. So i pace it.Do you still do 12 hours or more now?
I'm guilty of that I think as business owners we all work towards something and always thinking and planning so you never really "stop"
I do try to avoid the laptop more these days tho but it hard I always think if I don't do it. My competitors are.
As for finding or counting your blessings. I suggest find something you like and really invest in that as your "zen or happy place"
For me I enjoy cooking, relaxing by a fire and drinking. So I have the best of all I can afford and made my own social or family space in the garden that has pizza oven, good seating, fire pits etc.
If I do or go nowhere else I got that. I'm Happy with that.
Yeah I struggle I've managed to mange my burnout a little by building up teams around me.I get guilty on and off when I don't hustle that much. I sometimes still work 12 hours a day. Not always though. Age caught up and I get burned out fast. So i pace it.
For me it's cooking one a week. I like experimenting stuff in the kitchen. Nothing fancy, just basic dishes with my twist. Also gardening I do. I enjoy when I take up challenges. I fully automated the water flow and had to trouble shoot many times as some plants were dying because of less water and some because of over watering. So basically what drives is troubleshooting. May sound crazy but i feel I don't do and get guilty much if it's done easily
No alcohol or drugs for in 11 years i cannot handle it as I will go big and not go home when I start. So i switched to music(elvis to Ozzy) or watch a lot of movies/crime documentaries etc.
Thought about building towards your own home or place that's yours? Even if its just a holiday location? The issue for me is. When I get attached to a zen place or when I get settled in. It's time to move even if I didn't want to move, the situation is beyond my control. Plus i still live with my parents in the same building different floors. Me and wife in one floor and parents on the other.
Cat man also. For me getting comfortable doesn't work there is always change in surrounding or a move hahah. It's been like that since when I was a kid. So i try not getting attached. Plus recently I had 3 cats that I was very attached to die in 3 years one by one. So these days I just feed the stray cats, give them a few head scratches and not even give them name. I try floating like a paper bag as I am some what scared of attachment.
XWow it's like journaling. I am just typing out my feelings that I wouldn't tell anyone here hahah
Yes something i still cannot accept.Forget I'm not 20 and then it bites me.
Parents own the home(s), moving out was a choice I had and still have. They didn't guilt me into staying with them. My dad was a hustler too in the sense he worked and travelled for work when he was an employee and also when he became an employer. He still works 20-30 hours a week almost 70 years old now. So watching him while growing up and like any kid wanted an atta boy i started to hustle, which became a habit.Thought about building towards your own home or place that's yours? Even if its just a holiday location?
This feeling is something I would pray to never occur. As the only people am genuinely attached to are my parents, wife and my younger brother. Now probably for the last 2 years my niece who i meet atleast once a week if am in my home country.I'm not looking to pry. I think for me at least the thought of having to uproot like that would unsettle me.
Am a cat person. We have around 30+ stray cats that come here to our house as they please. Most of them have been collared. But we don't confine them like i how i did my pet cats earlier indoors.Cat man also.
We are on two new members of the family we had 3 but they all passed the rainbow bridgend now. Down to 2 and hunting for a 3rd and 4th but these will be rescues next time we think.
You could do stuff with the cats. Set up feeding or a cat sanctuary I've always thought I'd do something that crazy but I don't think I'm brave enough or that crazy mentally yet lolol
