I can’t say I’m surprised when I saw that other member was cancelling it on here!

I wonder how far it will go?

What's next? Stop using plastic because the army uses plastics?
Stop eating vegetables because the army bought some tomatoes? Lol

I’d say it’s more like quitting the use of plastic or vegetables from a specific company that’s doing something you disagree, not quitting plastics and vegetables entirely.

How about not using the internet because it was invented for military use?
People tend to do these over the top populist stuff untill they realize they need to actually sacrifice some convenience for their "principles", then they move on to the next thing.

So cancel your ChatGPT subscriptions, by all means, but don't act like you went all in on "not using products used by the military" because you'll end up needing to grow your own food.

I agree with you on that. Many of the people doing this right now are acting like they’re taking a moral high ground as if Claude or any of the others are much better.

They’re all companies with massive data centers taking up high amounts of resources.

The second it becomes inconvenient for them to take a stand they all go quiet.

Well ok maybe the competitors aren’t better but then what’s the alternative? I guess I can stop using AI but I think it’s at least better to stop using the prat of the companies wouldn’t you agree?

I’d say that’s better but the point is that some people are being pious about it.

A comment from X : )

"OpenAI just signed their ticket to never go out of business, but Anthropic signed their ticket to never lose customer trust."

I wouldn’t say never.

The US government is fickle af. All it takes is them doing anything to piss off the orange toddler and he’ll either replace them or find a way to claim ownership over the company.

Same goes form Anthropic. The second people forget about their heroic stand or whatever they’ll leave them for something else.
