I was casually talking to someone on another forum today and they sent me a link that I didn't recognize.

It was something called a grabify.link.

I didn't click it because they said they were sending me a link to a YT channel they thought I'd like and that wasn't a YouTube link?

So anyway I looked it up and found out that some people send these links to grab more info about you.

I tested it and you apparently don't even need an account to create these links and view the logos!

The date, IP address, country, browser, operating system, user agent, and your ISP all get logged!

I was like "omg why would someone just send me a link to do this???" I blocked that weirdo fast!

Just be careful out there because some people are doing really weird stuff!

Dos attacks via perl and ips captured via php are still a thing? :D

I'm wondering too, but these days it's probably just farming some data.

Interesting tool.

Apparently, Grabify.link allows you to change the domain.

Luckily for you, the person who sent you a link used the default domain, but this is something else to be aware of.

I know this website for a long time now it is useful if u want to find out if someone is saying to be in the location they pretend or not.
I see it a lot used in yputube videos where some YouTubeers try to locate those scammer from india and nigeria that run scams on usa

well..

Especially friends on skype back in 2010. They'd do anything to make fun of other people!

I was 12 years old back then and everyone was trolling each other bombarding their ip address or finding their real address, then ordering pizza.

Yeah, men used to hack my PC quite a bit. Eg some idiot got my ip from Gadu-Gadu (that was mainstream polish instant messenger back then) and then each time I read a book on manners he'd make my computer freeze. So, if you guys think *I'm* the one who's boorish, now you know why - I just fuckin couldn't finish reading that damn book. After couple incidents like these I started hiding my ip with tor lol. But the thing with tor is that it makes everything slow, so I couldn't use it with games. There was this american dude that wanted to marry me or whatever. I met him through american-ukrainian chick that I was hanging out with in Second Life. They were software developers working in a software house. So, he kept complaining about me showing my ip to everyone else and not him (that sounded weird). One day he invited me somewhere in Second Life and there was a built-in radio stream thing. And that leaked my ip. He hacked my computer (again, remotely - it was Linux btw), which I noticed immediately and complained to him. He tried denying, claiming it's a random hack, etc, then gave in and said there isn't anything interesting on my computer 😐. I started bitching and complaining so he wrote a whole fuckin pdf security audit with hardening guidelines for my system and that's how I got a free pentest.
