Implemented Mentoring is Allowed?

This suggestion has been implemented.
IM makes NO DIFFERENCE to the word or definition of a memntorship

Half of the drivel you replied with makes no difference what industry you are in , I got no idea why people think IM is sooo bloody special.

Doing work would or could be considered an apprenticeship where you go and learn on the job and do work and get paid. That's something totally different again.

Unless you actually understand what the definition is no one should be offering to guide anyone with any advice and this thread is doing a great job of actually highlighting the fact that most replies here have no clue what it is despite people claiming they offer it.

Definition:

Of course!

I am an idiot, posting drivel. Your words are the gospel.

I'll bow out.

Made sure I voted (I had) but didn't like @Zwielicht tried to hide it so I voted again to make sure it counted

That's called customer support.

I thought working in retail was the definition of the human race being thick as shit. Clearly it's asking them to explain what mentoring is.
I meant, you can teach your students after sales with your WhatsApp or Telegram and give them 1v1 training if they ask for it.

Why after, dude? I literally sell mine audits first and if they want services after that they can buy that too, lol.

I’m bumping this since the TOS still doesn’t address mentoring.

I’ll take some time to read through the responses here and come to a conclusion. In the meantime, if anyone else wants to add to this, then the thread has been unlocked for now.

Okay so I read everything again, I downvoted this back then but it all depends on what you classify as mentorship. Is helping someone 1 on 1 considered mentorship? If so, I'm probably looking at my status revoked at some point.

The whole work for free is stupid, I'm fine with not allowing that.

We can't allow to prohibit anything without defining it.

I support this.

If people can put quality stuff out why not?

Bigger orders/deals require escrow anyway, so there isn't much room for scamming unless someone charges peanuts for their mentoring.

Wasn't Sartre an AI guru that turned out to be a six figure scammer?

I see the benefits, but it will require a lot of public and staff scrutiny but at the same time, if it's genuine it could provide valuable networking and work opportuinities too if you get to know members a lot better. It's a tricky one.

We could have free webinars for the forum members probably?

Got so many experts in their own way 😁

What say @Zwielicht ?
Well, after reviewing this again, I think the best option is to prohibit paid mentoring but allow free mentoring, that way someone like t2van can help others without worrying about breaking any rules.
Oh I mentored about 6 people over the other place. Never asked for money though.

Is that not allowed then? lol

In terms of paid mentoring being prohibited, this means members wouldn't be able to make paid requests for mentoring in the Wanted section and traders couldn't sell mentoring services in the Service Listings section. The TOS and the Trading Post rules will be updated to further define what mentoring is, but as a loose definition for now, 1-on-1 or "Teacher/Sensei/whatever" situations are prohibited.

But this is a forum. Free mentoring is allowed by default anyway, or am I missing something?

You make a post, ask for help, and if you are lucky, somebody is willing to help you.

Or I am going to contact someone directly via DMs for assistance.

I don't know, this is a bit odd and confusing. Mods couldn't regulate it in any way if anyone offered free mentoring. How do you distinguish that from giving general advice, or when someone requires a more personal approach and wants to talk in depth about something?

I'd be against this for sure, provide free info via threads here if you want to help people. Free mentoring could be used as free labour basically too...

I don't see it ending well and I've always maintained the old saying - "Those who can - do, Those who can't - teach" in terms of making money I mean. It's fair enough and good going if you share info for free, that can still work in your favour and proves yourself without taking people under your wing in a mentor type situation which has many ways of going side ways in a bad way.

It might seem like it should be obvious since, yeah, it's the default, but it isn't obvious to others. It's why when this thread was started, some people weren't sure if "free mentoring" was allowed.

This is nothing more than a clarifying point to tell others, "yes, this is fine to do"; if that makes sense.
