Work hard and save money

Hell, even Poland has 10-12 hrs workdays + if you work in IT / software house you need to go to company events after work. These people aren't homeless, but then it's Poland, not Japan and they don't have medical debt. I'm appalled by how many people claim it's untrue (both here and in yt comments) and even make fun of homeless people and expect them to magically materialize a kitchen when they don't have an apartment. It's common knowledge karoshi exists, I remember reading about this years ago, I don't think there were videos by workers themselves available then. Sure japanese people also party a lot and have fun, weird fashion, these are known facts too, I'd assume these are higher up the social ladder than the homeless guy, obviously. We literally talked with our pharmacist friend from Poland couple days ago on video call and she complained so much about her 10-12 hours workdays, houndreds of patients, she of course worked on weekend as well and boss wanted her to give back money from her salary because some bitch carded the pharmacy (took a bunch of stuff, 'paid' by card, but the card was empty + she did a chargeback from empty card! Hell, I got interested, actually). So no, it's not jUsT sOmEtHiNG I sAw On SoCiAL MeDiA, I actually heard some horror stories from friends/acquaintances from Poland. I don't know any japanese people, but from these videos it seems they have it worse.
I think the same as you .

I have heard that sort of things from Polish and other Slavic people.

I have done the whole long term shift you got no time to prepare food, anything who says is either lazy or never worked hard before.

I also know it happens in the UK as well so not just Japan issue in many countrys when I was a shop manager it was pretty common for me to be working 12 hours or more shifts per day.

If we are going to look into more geeky side of things for economics, Japan has been in a decline stage for many years. it was a powerhouse in the past but it not keep up some people claimed it would beat America it did not.

Japan is a very marketable country and they do make very high quality products, such as Sony,Food ,Pokimon, among other things.

I met many people from, Western world,Asia or Africa who experienced burnout

Yes I agree. But things are cooler now. The recent generations. But hustle culture and long work hours are some how an unfortunate peer pressure.

Because for me my 20s and early 30s was always 12-14 hours and 6 days a week both when I was employee and now an employer for 9 years. Only the past few years i started to cool off on the hours. I don't know how to explain this feeling. For me without work I will have incredible void and depression.

The earlier days for me when I think about it was either the competition, scarcity of opportunities and peer pressure of my classmates doing better that builds up plus had to always show we were busy. The issue with india is, it's not 12-14 hours of dedicated work unlike those countries.

But with Japan or South Korea or Taiwan from my personal experience, it's dedicated work and they even take the most basic job with pride which isn't common in India.

I saw a 7 eleven worker who was mostly 17-19 years old, take 15 minutes of time to help me find a simple vegetarian food. It wasn't required to do that but he still did that. They all take pride to do their work and the way they have hacks and convience for simplest things is something I would hustle all year to be there. This is my POV, because grass is always green on the other side.

I was similarly mislead by some people about London and Paris. They told me things changed and its become very dangerous, racist. But i have had nothing but good experience. The only change i noticed in Paris is language. Now the waiters spoke English unlike many years ago when I had to start with Jai parllez un peu aglais, vous parllez anglais sil vous plait. They are still clean and organized expect for some spots which is common for any big city.

British are one of the most friendlist and genuinely helpful people I have ever meet so far. The fellow passengers help you in loading or lifting bags. Also the humor is witty.

Next comes Japan also very friendly. They are mostly quite in the metros or public places because they want to respect another person's privacy. But when you approach them for directions they go out of the way to walk with you for 600-1000 meters which is something I can still not fanthom.

So my only doubt is, if Japanese were so stressed how are very happy/efficient with work. Because I think stress breaks a person and makes them not function properly. I know this from experience as I have had stress and depression before in my late 20s.

After typing this long post I just realised we all should be happy with what we have as grass is greener on the other side. Maybe it's time for me to count the blessings and stop trying to fantasise living there and to stop being unhappy with my home country.

I don't think they are cooler if they were you would no have generation who has decided to stay home instead of work or do anything productive for example I watched video 50 year man who all he does is sleep all day because want to deal with modern life.

You also in Japan a job for men to pretend to be a woman boyfriend this not working functionable sociey works this somewhere clearly issues and for women do this as a job as well.

I get your work thinking I know a woman who I do jobs for often she is worth a billion she gets bored if she does not work, does charity in Scotland often or she was Chairwoman for big electricity firm in the past

I would agree that those three countrys take job pride very seriously.

I went to London it was the worst place ever, being life I felt safer walking Glasgow's murder areas such as Priesthill.

For Paris met people who tell horrible for example my postman, very nice from Paris tells me it is horrible place to live I also got friends from the UK who live France in the country area tell Paris is horrible place to live often he's lived their 15 year and married French woman.

For your 7 eleven worker that's same way I worked in Retail that kind of then norm unless it changed for example someone told me about computer issue helped fix it for them or I helped carry outt to granny car TV just normalthing you do in Retail in West I think.

A lot of people hide stress I am going to guess you probably know at least one person who worked in a call centre told you about the abuse they often get.

The people working in the call centres have got the highest sucide rate in any job in the world. I heard a few of my friends calls I was blown away by how incredible rude the people phoning up Southern Energy were these not unual insults proper personal that was going on to them whole time they were working.

I don't disagree there good at being friendly or giving advice on finding things.

To me kind of common if someone asks me for directions just give since I live sort of tourist area over my house, being next a few famous buildings or businesses .

Thanks, I love meeting Indians very friendly as well.

I had in past really incredible Indian Doctor he was doctor before Google Translate existed he could speak 20 languages such as English,Spanish,Hindu,Tamil,Panjabi,German as such he would often patients with languages problems.

He was only like in his 40s when he received all these amazing medical awards he worked in Ninewells in Scotland when I spoke to him always think wow he's so smart he would know anything you imagine about medicine or healthcare.

Anyone worked in phyical business knows you are meant to smile or act happy 24/7 if you don't get fired or a warning that why they do it in Japan or the West normally.

I don't know what you are money wise if you said me I got say $10million net work then you could live in Japan and have happy life but you could with that sort of money live happily most places.

I think Japan is great for holiday or short term fun but living long term unless weathly probably not fun long term.

For example, that British guy Abroad in Japan, I doubt he owns a house in Japan he loves the country or the experience, so will probably keep staying.

You inviting me to UK in the past was very funny too, you think a woman would fly over to a grocery store worker? You have huge ego but that's about it. Great match with Dopious, I have no idea where all of you get that high esteem from, nobody ever humbled you enough I guess 😆. Your mommy told you that you're special, idk.
He maybe Grocery store worker now I am sure in the future he will end up successful I keep getting the feeling this guy will do big things in the near future.

One thing noticed with both men and women who are a bit unique normally they are normally intelligent or got some kind of unique skill.

Give you another example one of my Aussie friends got a mental condition he's in Mensa but if people meet him because of his condition, he comes across as unusual over no social skills, but he's really smart. He makes a lot of videogames behind the sceens or other software work he does.
